Can a true calling change?

Yes, a true calling can change and you can have many callings throughout your life.

You are a spectacularly unique individual and you were meant to enjoy and be rewarded for your distinctiveness.

My experience as a true calling coach has shown me that if your business is not aligned with your calling at some point you’ll begin to resist it.  Resistance is a terrible growth strategy.A true calling based business is a business aligned with and built on a foundation of who you are as an individual founder and what you are able to imagine creating.

A true calling based business is a business aligned with and built on a foundation of who you are as an individual founder and what you are able to imagine creating.

Elements describing who you are: core values, strengths, environments, personality traits and inner wisdom.

Elements influencing what you can imagine: vision, transition requirements, desires, and fears.

A true calling based business is one that is ideally aligned with each of these elements but the most powerful of all is your core values.

One way to know if your true calling is really true

Looking at the alignment between your business and your individual core values is the single most accurate way to determine if you are truly working a calling.

I’m not referring to what is normally called a value.  Core values are not moral or social values like integrity and respect. These are more accurately standards that we want to hold dear.

Core values are also not what drives us or motivate us.  Core values are not desires like freedom.

I believe that Thomas Leonard’s definition is the most accurate.

Values are activities, preferences, or behaviors that you are naturally drawn to. Values are you. If there is a natural and uncomplicated pull, it’s probably a value.

Just make sure that you don’t confuse wants or needs with values.  Leonard further explains.

Needs are resources, people, feelings, situations or environments that you must have in order to be your best. There’s a sense of urgency with needs. Wants are what you enjoy having. Values fulfill you; wants provide gratification.

You can’t choose the wrong business if it’s clearly aligned with each of your four values.  For example, these are mine: to Pioneer, to Inspire, to Encourage and to Rally.

Can you see how supportive these values are for my calling as a professional coach?

Are you curious about discovering your four core values?

If so and you’d like an opportunity to reveal them respond to this post and tell me why.

Coming Into Your Own Individuality

Coming into your own individuality is to accept your divine gift and be the one core thing that only you can be.  This is my spiritual theory of self-actualization. coming into your own

You have been blessed with unique talents so that you can express them and create a contribution to humanity that could not happen without you in it. If you decide to stop short of coming into your own, you are telling God, “no thank you” and returning the gift that was meant only for you.

Do Not Limit God’s Gifts

Rigid and defining conclusions on God and God’s capability leads to further limiting conclusions on what God can and cannot do for you. These beliefs actually limit how you can receive Divine Grace and Divine Intelligence even though they may be what you call your religion.

Infinite intelligence is undefinable beyond all description and comparison including definitions set forth by all religions. These religious restrictions on what’s possible were created by others to make sense of the Divine.

I use the term Universe to describe my personal experience of God because I can imagine myself working in partnership with God more readily if I refer to infinite intelligence as the Universe.  Actualization will come easier to you if you also use the name for God that feels and sounds most infinite and personal to you.

The Universe actually has your back and looks to support you unconditionally. Yet you must make an effort to express yourself as a powerful individual who knows and engages your one core thing in a distinctively unique way.

God doesn’t make dummies or copies. Be all of who you are to reconnect your essence to the infinite being you can be.

Ask Big Questions to Create a Big Life

Open-ended inquiry expands consciousness so that you become aware of possibilities other than those that can be seen. Asking an uplifting question is actually asking the Universe to rearrange molecular possibilities on your behalf.

Without daily inquiry you are limiting yourself to what has been and what can already be seen.

This contextual reality only defines limitations set down by the collective opinions of others that you have adopted as your own. Since the non-contextual reality is infinite, the contextual reality (what can be seen) comprises only a small portion of what’s actually possible.

Your infinite, non-contextual reality is stimulated by fresh realizations, new choices, uplifting questions and ever-increasing awareness.  It’s necessary to ask big questions beyond your current understanding to inspire the process of coming into your own individuality.

The essence of you, your core being is far greater than you think it to be.  Ask this question and feel the spiritual uplift of coming into your own.

Wouldn’t it be wonderful if I could create and enjoy my unique magnificence daily?

When you ask a question, make a new choice or observe a fresh insight you are asking the universe to show you something greater than you are now experiencing. When you allow what you perceive without judgment you are essentially signaling the Universe to show you more of the same.

Allowing What Is Increases Your Power

Allowance without judgement, good or bad, is the key to self-actualization.  Self-actualization is the ultimate in coming into your own individuality.

When you allow what is with heartfelt gratitude you are setting in motion a causative energy that brings you greater and keener insights into what works especially well for you.

Allowance is not agreement. It is your ability to observe and not resist what is happening because you’re wise enough to know that life doesn’t happen to you. Life happens through you and for you.

Thank you God and thank you Universe what else is possible that I have yet to imagine?

Magnificence Is Your Choice

The only thing you must do is be true to you. Originality beats mimicry. Individuality is your most valuable selling point.

It doesn’t matter whether it’s significant yet.  If it’s yours, you can make it so.  If it’s not yours, you’ll never succeed at it anyway. ― Al Ries

You can only provide significant value for others when your one core thing is absolutely true for you.

This quote urges you to persist in developing what only you can in the way that only you can.

It matters not how many times you’ve fallen short before. The only thing that matters is that you will rise again with an idea so beautiful that it could only have come from someone as special as you.

I salute you and the remarkably innovative concept that you are capable of bringing to humanity.

Determination and persistence become supercharged when you connect to your purest vein of actualized originality.

It’s up to you to ride your individuality all the way up.

Quit Searching – You Have No Life Purpose

start your business nowReally, what if there is no right life purpose answer to find? The traditional reality in which we all live is greatly influenced by educational and business opinions that insist there is one right answer to be found.

This wastes years of searching because if it’s not there you won’t find it. When you come to a conclusion that there is one right answer to big questions like life purpose then a few things happen.

  1. You might expect a heavenly revelation to hit you like a ton of bricks. But what if hints to your calling come more like subtle whispers on the wind? What if you never experience the big bang of insight? Will you just go one searching forever frustrated by a lack of life purpose?
  2. Believing that you have one, big, sacred life purpose can cause you to fear that you aren’t strong enough or smart enough to succeed in such a big way. So you may wait until you think you might be more ready. The waiting kills your momentum and it kills your awareness of other possibilities.
  3. One big life purpose can seem so final and exact. But what if you experience an earth shattering event that changes the way you see everything? Should you stubbornly try to make sense of your life purpose within the context of that event? I don’t think so.

Each of us has a special capacity to contribute multiple unique gifts to humanity. As your life experience changes and expands so does your capacity to contribute from that special perspective. The Blessing of Unique Contribution promises that you are uniquely equipped with the capacity to discover original ideas that are your special contribution to humanity. It also promises that you can bring these ideas forth and monetize them as your true calling based business. Why else would an intelligent Creator bless each of us so uniquely?

What if you’ve already searched enough? What if you’ve already come across and overlooked many business ideas that that could each be a special part of your contribution?
In my coaching experience of 16 years hundreds of clients already are very close to what their contribution actually is. What if it’s the same for you? Do yourself a favor and get started today.

Answer these questions and get moving. Humanity needs the lift of your special contribution.

The Authentic Way – Both Alone & Together

Where are you most likely to express authentically? While in community or while being a strong individual?

The more we express our authentic uniqueness, the more likely we are to enjoy fulfillment, prosperity and freedom, …in a word success.

So if success is based on the expression of authentic uniqueness what causes you to feel safe enough and strong to express authentically?

In what environment are you more likely to take a stand? I’ve witnessed heights of individual expression within supportive community that could not have even been birthed walking alone.

But yet there is the beautiful paradox. Standing tall as individuals, pushing back at conformity, best occurs in a connected environment, with the support of others.

In order to come into your own, you must not stand-alone.

Parker Palmer endorses the paradox.

Your most beautiful and most valuable expression of authentic individuality cannot be reached by going it alone.

Being the rugged individual of American myth is actually less courageous, than standing tall in relationship.

Community inspires. Community provides connection and meaning.

The most loving, confident and strongest version of you only emerges in deep connection with others.

Be fully you, while being with me and we’ll see one another as we are meant to be.

Have you experienced bolder individual expression within community or by going solo? Have you experienced unconditional support?

Listening To Your Life

I was born in 1950 and country grown, outside of Pittsburgh, where I naturally went deep. The space program was a big deal when I was 12 years old but I can clearly remember it not holding a lick of interest for me.

I was into digging and dirt. I built dams in farmer’s streams. My buddies and I built earthen forts and tried tunneling. One of the best stand-by-me adventures was following a gas line excavation for miles, all day long.

At 12, I took my first job on a farm and my love for gardening grew from there. I worked on the farm for 5 years and loved every bit of it but I especially loved digging up spuds and stacking the wooden crates high in cool, dimly lit storage rooms.

When I was 17, I took a job going deeper into the earth and worked with a backhoe operator installing sewer pipes. I loved carrying those 80 lb. terra cotta sections and jumping in and out of ditches. Can you see the developing theme? Can you see what my life was trying to tell me, even then?

At 19, on summer break from college, I worked as a United Mine Worker in a deep shaft coal mine.

I wasn’t looking for any of these opportunities. They appeared one after the other, as guidance, to write my future life script.

Fast-forward 40 years. Eleven years ago, I was thinking about a name for my new coaching business. I called it Coresight, soon after changed to CoreU. I named it so because I loved getting to the root of deep, messy, emotional issues with my clients and I still do.

Business start up success is always more predicated on an inner game than on the influence of any outside conditions. That’s one reason why every entrepreneur must be able to read his or her own inner landscape.

When I was naming my career coaching company, I hadn’t yet made the connection to those earlier life experiences where I dug going deep so much. It became relevant, years later, when I first read Parker Palmer’s book, Let Your Life Speak.

He proved to me that my soul, my inner wisdom, guidance from the highest and best part of my being has always been trying to nudge me in the direction of my true calling.

But these calling nudges, (like they often are), were not meant to be taken literally but as a metaphor for my life’s work.

Guess what my friend? Your life has been speaking to you as well. Are you listening?

Clients often ask, “Where will the confidence come from for me to make my best career change? Confidence comes from being able to read the signs and follow your life message. You don’t need a past life psychic to guide you. Your life has been giving you real time hints all along.

But you do need to sort out the authentic nudges from all of the “outside-in” messages and I have a way for you to do that. You could write your autobiography using appreciative inquiry.

You can reclaim the wisdom in your life hints by recalling what has worked well for you over the years. If you want a free guide write me and tell me why you think this approach will work for you.

If enough readers are interested, I’ll facilitate a free class on how to interpret your autobiography to see the most telling themes. This approach is one of dozens I use to guide clients to the powerful position of self-understanding and now you can have it for the asking.

It’s all there waiting to guide you and it always has been. Isn’t it time you listened to your own life?

True Calling On A Wing A Prayer And A Guess

On a wing and a prayer means in beat up condition but still managing to get the job done. The saying is taken from a World War Two patriotic song that tells the story of a damaged plane barely able to limp back to base.

I think it’s wildly inspiring to fly by the seat of your pants and just make it.

Some folks get overly concerned about being able to find their calling because they fear they don’t have one. These fearful souls believe as if they are somehow so special that they were put on this earth for no meaningful reason.

So what, you haven’t yet found work that expresses your purpose, what are you going to do, quit life?

Are you going to quit living and settle way down in the depths of depression because your personal true calling quest has yet to be fruitful?

Don’t give me that bull. You may have stuck your toe in the water a bit but you have no right to hang it up, until you at least try a wing, a prayer and a guess.

Don’t quit life. I want to encourage you to suck it up, take off and make it back to the authentic base of who you are.

A Wing

To take flight, find some reason to feel good enough and hopeful enough to get to the next milestone of positive belief. That’s all it takes.

You simply need to change your perspective enough so that you reach the tipping point of positive belief.

To get started you just have to believe that finding and enjoying your true calling could happen. Then you just have to express the courage enough to say that you want it to happen.

All transition is about latching onto the uplift of positive energy and riding it to the next progress point.

This next point of progress can be a fresh realization of understanding or actual results. It doesn’t really matter which, as long as you can feel the energy of hope.

Being hopeful is ill advised only when it’s the only thing you’re relying on. But when you back your hope up with just enough action to stumble forward, hope becomes an uplifting and effective strategy.

Enthusiastic energy provides the fuel of hope when results are thin. It doesn’t really matter what belief is behind your hope. Sometimes we need to lean more heavily on the confidence of others until our self-confidence builds.

The best reason for working career discovery on a wing a prayer and a guess, is because at least you are in the game. When you’re in the game and not merely on the sidelines fortunate synchronicities become more probable.

Timid souls who play it safe, never get even a whiff of these delightful possibilities because they are too damned sacred of losing the life of their daily bitching.

A Prayer

After years of work with hundreds of coaching clients, I’ve come to understand that identifying one’s true calling is primarily a spiritual process. Regardless of individual religious beliefs, this process must be approached with sacred reverence and respect.

True calling cannot be intellectually “figured out”. This process is deeply meaningful to the individual and to the greater community that the individual serves. This sacred connection makes the conscious awareness of working a spiritual process essential.

I want to share with you the prayer that I prayed to accelerate clarity around my calling. This prayer is not for the faint of heart, but for the bold. Do not pray this powerful prayer without a willingness to follow your call. Pray to the God, Higher Power or Inner Guidance of your own faith.

A Guess

Any educated guess, put into action, will get you 100 times closer to seeing your real calling than the most brilliant strategy that is planned and never acted upon.

Really, if you simply wrote down the business that most brings you alive by imagining it and decided on one small way to take committed action for the next two weeks, your life would be forever changed.

Seekers of ideal work would be better off by experimenting, by guessing, by putting themselves in play more often so that life force energy of calling can bless them. Guess and act and you too will receive experiences by which to adapt to move closer to calling.

Make more decisions in every day because a decision is a summoning of life. That’s why a little chaos is good for you, because often you don’t make a decision until you get yourself in a jam. And then, in the middle of the jam, you make a decision, but that decision summons Life Force. Have you ever been a place where you couldn’t quite make up your mind and you just felt sort of limp? “Oh, I don’t know. I don’t know. I don’t know.” And then you decided, and you felt alive again. We want you to know that you’ll never get it done. So don’t approach this from, “I gotta get on this” because you’re not ever going to get it done, anyway. And the other thing we want you to know is, you cannot get it wrong. So, make a decision. Let it flow.
— Abraham

Which part of this sacred, true calling trinity do you need to engage right now?

Live Big or Die Small

No matter who you are or what you do for a living there is an excellent chance that you’re playing too small.

Perhaps you’ve experienced the brilliant flash of an idea but it seemed too unattainable so you’ve compromised, thinking that you can lessen the risk.

But what if by backing a second place dream you’ve actually increased your risk?

What if there isn’t enough true north aliveness within that compromise for you to eagerly follow-through and complete?

Might your lack of focus, follow-through and completion have more to do with the authenticity of your chosen objectives than with your creative or productive ability?

Big dreams are not realized within comfort zones.

Big callings don’t care about your comfort, your money or your peace of mind.

Big callings are boldly and gloriously honored in the full scope and size of original realization.

Have you had a bigger dream than the one you’re going for?

Have you been called to play on a bigger stage for all the marbles?

If you’ve been called, know this; you have what it takes to pull it off.

Unleash your courage on your biggest dream and live big.

You are magnificent and it’s your time to shine.

First Comes … The Courage To Listen

iStock_000009645441XSmallWhat made you begin to listen to your still, small voice within?  Was it the pain of not doing so?  Most of us put off facing even the possibility of true calling for as long as we can stand it.

I think on some level we are aware of the pain and suffering we’re causing ourselves but the alternative of trusting life and the fear of what a calling might demand of us is even greater; so we continue to endure the pain.

I can tell you from first hand experience that following a calling does not make us immune to chaos.  Often things don’t work out the way as planned.  But the decision and ongoing commitment to honor an authentic path does pay off.  The courage to first listen and then accept what we hear is both necessary and deeply fulfilling.

We must be willing to get shaken up, to submit ourselves to the dark blossomings of chaos, in order to reap the blessings of growth.  Gregg Levoy

Recognition + Less Resistance = Increased Clarity of Calling

When you’re on the right track you can feel it.

When you are being more fearless than fearful you know it.

What you might not know is that you are enough. You are strong enough and talented enough to answer your call.   It’s yours and yours alone to be expressed in only the way that you could express it.

But it begins with trust, with trust and with powerful questions.

It will increase your trust and give you some powerful questions.

Face up to this dear reader.   There’s a good reason why you’re drawn to read about true callings.  You can sense the sacred invitation to follow your path.  It comes first as a whisper, then a nudge and eventually a violent shaking of your life.   You do have the courage to listen now.

It’s more fulfilling and magnificent to call on your boldness in the good company of those who also are committed to answering their call.   Take a small step forward and you’re life will be changed forever.

Don’t make it about the money.

Wounds + Authentic Makeup = True Calling

iStock_000000231241XSmallWould you be the person you are today without the experience of surviving your major life wounds? I’ve been pondering the idea of a truly benevolent Universe. In such a Universe everything conspires for your highest good.

Everything includes every annoyance and even your most heart-breaking disappointments.  Every challenge has been for your good and the highest good of everyone else involved.

Normally when we say “it’s all good”  – it’s after a big hurt when we are coming to terms with a disappointment or an outcome that at the time was not a desired.

Yet if the Universe is indeed a benevolent, cooperative environment, that takes everything into account for our ultimate blessing, then perhaps these are its operating principles.

1). You and I came equipped with the exact completely unique and authentic makeup we need to create whatever life’s work we most want.

2). Our less than encouraging childhood not only frightened us from expressing authentically but at the same time built our strength and determination to one day become more fully authentic.

3). Our stumbles, failures and suffering were all necessary so that our resolve to serve others with the same suffering, could build itself to a point of unwavering commitment.

Our wounds influence our passions.  These passions over time become our heart’s desires.  What if we needed the experience of being scared to death in order to really care enough to seize a true calling?

Perhaps our true life’s work means so much to us that deep within we can’t imagine not going for it.

Is it possible that your vocational uncertainty and resistance to working a true calling is an attempt to deny the very pain that has made you who you are?

Perhaps your one true vocation calls you like no other because no other could have felt your pain like you have.

Yes both your authentic makeup and your life experiences have prepared you to answer your sacred call.  It’s great that you’re afraid.

If you aren’t afraid then you can’t really care enough to make a difference.  If you don’t make a big difference, you won’t make a lot of money.  If you don’t make a lot of money you’ll be less able to be generous with others.

That’s the beauty of being selfish in service to others.  What’s really good for you is even better for humanity.

Embrace your wounds; they have made you the strong woman or man that you are.  Your existence here is not a cruel joke.   You were meant to do the work that only you can do.

Life is for living all out!  You can make a difference and make more money by being the boldly beautiful being that you are, wounds and all.

Trust Your True Calling Gut Feeling

istock_000003792360xsmallHere’s a way for you to shorten the amount of time you spend before starting to work a true calling.   Like most good things in life making a bold, strong start is half the battle.

You have a pretty good idea of what your true calling probably is right now.

If you are not yet enjoying the fulfillment and prosperity of working a true calling maybe it’s time for you to simply trust your gut.  Gut feelings are a much more reliable source of guidance than anything found outside of you, including advice from experts.

So …how much more encouragement do you need to just do what you were meant to do?

If you don’t follow your gut, do you understand what causes you to mistrust your gut feelings?

Perhaps you are misinterpreting confused thoughts for your intuition.  One thing I know for sure, the more you trust yourself and your own inner guidance the stronger and more accurate it gets.

Doubting, over-analyzing and hesitating only add to your confusion.

This is the biggest detriment to working a true calling.  Hesitation.

Most hesitate far too long before getting started on work they were meant to do.  They spend too much time on discussing, researching, thinking and analyzing.  Too much time wasted on all the things short of action.

1). Accept that you are more ready than you think you are.

2). Accept that if your personal true calling idea wasn’t made for you, (meaning you have the complete capacity to pull it off) it would not have even come to you.

3). Invite your intuitive self to communicate your strongest and truest path.

4). Listen attentively and write down what comes to you. Then try it on for a couple of days.  See if any other guidance arises.

5). Ask the most powerful getting started question.  What could I do now to move this idea forward?

6). Do that thing and ask again from the improved perspective of one who has honored her or his true calling by acting on it.

The world is ready to conspire on your behalf but only if you listen to your gut feelings and act.  At which point of the above process did you hesitate? How can I help you to act more boldly today?  What idea have you been hesitating on that you know is meant for you?
