Four Ways To Be Who You Really Are

How about we skip all the bull and just come out as we are?

When you can boldly be who you are, then you can serve from the core of what you were meant to give.

Coming all the way out and risking authentic expression, is more confidently accomplished from a supportive platform.

Self-employment is the most direct route to being who you really are.  Working for someone else is seldom a supportive platform.

Sure self-employment can be scary and messy but wouldn’t you rather have scary and messy freedom over soulless imprisonment?

I’m writing this for you if you’re deadening your spirit by doing the same purposeless work day after day.  I’m writing this for you if you’re already self-employed but under-earning.  What good is freedom without the means to enjoy it?

Authenticity and money are connected via confidence.   Money is attracted to confidence.  Confidence expresses most naturally from being the person you really are.

The solution to both under-earning and a lack of fulfillment is the same.  The solution is authentic expression and it’s impossible to express authentically if you aren’t being who you really are.

I admit it.  I’ll use any challenge, urging or encouragement I can to get you to be you.   You think the decision to be self-employed has to be a big deal but it doesn’t.  You can begin here for 77 bucks and 12-15 hours of sweat equity.

Success is really all about alignment.  When you’re out of alignment, with who you are and with what you came here to do, then you must make up the slack with effort.

Have you ever driven a car that was out of alignment?  I have and it’s a bitch to hold the steering wheel steady.  A misaligned vehicle takes much greater focus and much more physical strength just to keep it pointed in the right direction.  Your life isn’t any different.

That’s why you’re so stressed out if you’re unfulfilled in your work.  Your authentic alignment is all out of whack and it’s taking its toll on your body and mind.

Just “be who you are” and bring your gifts wherever you are and wherever you go, and this change that has begun, will begin to show itself as the movement that it is.  Mari Perron

Four Ways To Be Who Your Really Are

What does it mean to be who you are?  That answer is different for all of us but there are four pathways to authenticity.  Each is a conscious choice and for each choice, half measures do not work.

To be who you really are you must:

1).  Express and create your boldest, most authentic, original idea. This path is where authenticity meets creation.  This is how you fulfill your sacred covenant of uniqueness.  Have you chosen to bring about your biggest dream?  If not then you’re acting in a less than fully authentic way.

Don’t let the thoughts of “that’s too big” stop you.   All big dreams begin with single, small, bold steps.

2). Engage that idea and bring it to the marketplace in the way that only you can. It’s not enough to simply choose your biggest, boldest idea – you must also deliver it from the core of your individuality.  This is your authentic edge.  Are you driving your dream in your own special way or are you copying the methods of others?

Don’t look around at the way it’s always been done.  Blaze new trails, in ways, that could only have come to one who is being who she is.

3).  Create in service to those you care about the most. This is where your life experience rubs up against what you came here to do.  Who you are now is different than who you were when you arrived.   You’re an individual who has uniquely responded to challenges.  Are you working in service to the group of people that you most care about?

The fierce and compassionate qualities of your heart will give you strength only when you really give a good shit.

4). Show up and stand up, in ways that fire you up the most. Are you fully alive while working?  Are you enthused just thinking about your work?  Is it a joy to experience others appreciating your work?  Can you feel your special juice even when you must be open and vulnerable to express?

The only person who can ultimately save your ass is a stronger more determined version of your true self.

Those are the four ways to be who you really are.  What’s your authentic batting average? Are you 0 for 4, .500, batting a thousand?

If you aren’t yet being who you are, do you really want to be?

Self-employment is the most direct route because it presents more options with far less restriction.   But even being your own boss doesn’t have to be an all or nothing leap.  You don’t have to risk everything.

But you do have to risk looking like a fool for the love of who you are.

Why not lighten the risk?  Why not put your toe in the waters of self-employment by starting part time?  Here’s one way.

I’ve created a process where you in less than a week, you can weave in all four authentic ways while creating and completing your original information product.  In five days at least you’ll have something to sell that you really care about.

Wounds + Authentic Makeup = True Calling

iStock_000000231241XSmallWould you be the person you are today without the experience of surviving your major life wounds? I’ve been pondering the idea of a truly benevolent Universe. In such a Universe everything conspires for your highest good.

Everything includes every annoyance and even your most heart-breaking disappointments.  Every challenge has been for your good and the highest good of everyone else involved.

Normally when we say “it’s all good”  – it’s after a big hurt when we are coming to terms with a disappointment or an outcome that at the time was not a desired.

Yet if the Universe is indeed a benevolent, cooperative environment, that takes everything into account for our ultimate blessing, then perhaps these are its operating principles.

1). You and I came equipped with the exact completely unique and authentic makeup we need to create whatever life’s work we most want.

2). Our less than encouraging childhood not only frightened us from expressing authentically but at the same time built our strength and determination to one day become more fully authentic.

3). Our stumbles, failures and suffering were all necessary so that our resolve to serve others with the same suffering, could build itself to a point of unwavering commitment.

Our wounds influence our passions.  These passions over time become our heart’s desires.  What if we needed the experience of being scared to death in order to really care enough to seize a true calling?

Perhaps our true life’s work means so much to us that deep within we can’t imagine not going for it.

Is it possible that your vocational uncertainty and resistance to working a true calling is an attempt to deny the very pain that has made you who you are?

Perhaps your one true vocation calls you like no other because no other could have felt your pain like you have.

Yes both your authentic makeup and your life experiences have prepared you to answer your sacred call.  It’s great that you’re afraid.

If you aren’t afraid then you can’t really care enough to make a difference.  If you don’t make a big difference, you won’t make a lot of money.  If you don’t make a lot of money you’ll be less able to be generous with others.

That’s the beauty of being selfish in service to others.  What’s really good for you is even better for humanity.

Embrace your wounds; they have made you the strong woman or man that you are.  Your existence here is not a cruel joke.   You were meant to do the work that only you can do.

Life is for living all out!  You can make a difference and make more money by being the boldly beautiful being that you are, wounds and all.

Money and Authenticity

What do you think is the greatest indicator of wealth generation with a true calling?

Is it doing what you love?

Is it doing what you want to do?

Is it being who you are?

I’m not going to tell you here.  You’ll have to go over to Barbara Swafford’s interview of me and read my answer in the comment section of this post.

It’s one of the better answers I’ve ever given because the question about true calling and money was so good.  Do you have an even better question about the Big Link Rally, authenticity or true calling?

Go over there and ask it – I dare you!

Ring The Authentic Bell And Win The Big Prize

iStock_000008180567XSmallConnecting the big link between authenticity and prosperity is a process of coming back to oneself.  My intention is to create environments where your reconnection to original magnificence will thrive.  I want to show you your way to ring your authentic bell so that you continue to hear its strong, clear call.

If you too want abundant fulfillment and financial prosperity from putting your purest self out there – I invite you to join me in the process.  These are the connection points that I’ve recently worked.  They cannot be skipped.  All transformation begins within.

Declaration

No more hiding. No more holding back. No more playing smaller than I could play.  No more going for second place dreams.  No more listening to my fears. I accept full authenticity and abundance regardless of form, expression or manifestation.  I declare myself to be an instrument in service to my original uniqueness.

Confession

The last time that I followed through all the way to completion, on a first place dream, was in 1992.  That dream ended in 1997 with a loss of worldly possessions and much of my self-regard.  I’d boldly chosen, come close but no cigar.

I missed the mark and lost a home, a marriage, all my money and temporarily, my peace of mind.  I’m now grateful for letting it all go.  I’m grateful for all of my wounds.  Now is the time to come boldly forth again.

My confession is that even though I’ve coached many to go for their gold, I’ve been playing it safe and just nipping around the edges of my next big thing.  I’ve been shying away from the hot stove of flat out, passionate desire because of that old burn.  No more.

Forgiveness

Entrepreneurship is a sacred exploration of trust.  Recently I asked for help from a dear, trusted friend and she wisely asked me to commit to a spiritual practice of forgiveness for a few days.

Perhaps you too need to forgive yourself for your many misses.  Perhaps you too need to clear out all the mental waste that is weighing you down before embarking on a new journey or special project.

I wasn’t fully hearted in some past limited attempts but I can see more clearly now.  I see now how I have previously misfired on many projects because I kept planting new seeds over old ground that wasn’t properly prepared for a new crop.  Those messy misses were a necessary part of my evolution.  Now I am doing the work of my bravest heart.

All authentic pursuits are good for us.  I want you to forgive yourself, if like me; you’ve taken some shots and fallen short.  All authentic pursuits (whether birthed to die within a day or even after a few hours in our minds) create a cumulative good that has strengthened your brave heart.  This is a key component of Divine Coalescence.

I fully forgive myself for all false starts, incompletion, errors in judgment, small thinking, inauthentic pursuits, embraced distractions, under-earning, excuse-making, self-created limitations and fearful behaviors.  By deep feeling absolution I’m now digging up and tossing aside all rocks and roots that have previously stunted my authentic growth.

Evolution is a gnarly, messy exploration into higher states of consciousness and then outward to increasingly bolder authentic expression.  But the journey begins within because that’s where your untarnished, purest vein of authentic desire and capacity resides.

Ring The Bell

I’m a big strong guy and I’ve always been able to swing the sledge and ring the carnival bell.  But sometimes it takes a more solid hit. Sometimes, at first, we fall short before striking gold.  Perhaps our strike wasn’t squarely on the mark or perhaps we just hadn’t focused enough weight and energy into our swing.

I like the carnival atmosphere and the playful kidding and laughter from onlookers when one comes very close but no cigar.  There’s something cathartic and primal about watching the striker rise, come close and slowly fall all the way back down to ground zero.  After near misses one must find the determination to re-gather energy, refocus aim, and re-adjust swing for the right amount of committed determination before taking another swing.

That’s where I now find myself.  I’m preparing solid ground for another swing to ring the big bell of authenticity.

Win The Big Prize

The big prize is total fulfillment, unlimited freedom, unbridled joy and lavish abundance, simply for fully expressing your authentic self.

Don’t you too want all that just for being who you are?  Deep in my bones, I know that’s our true original blessing.

That’s what I’d like to encourage for all of you who want to connect your authenticity with your prosperity.  I see too much struggle from folks who simply want to be real and be rich.  I see too much hesitation from folks who are still hiding their wildest, most beautiful essence.   I’ve encouraged you to come out and play before.

But now I’m determined to do something about it.  It’s my intention to connect this big and beautiful link.  I really have no choice, for this is my soul’s mission.  I can now feel the authentic lift and I’m riding it all the way, wherever it goes.

Stay tuned.  If you are so moved join me with a declaration of your own below.  I’m inviting you to reconnect your own link by working this sacred process.

What’s Next?

Only Future Tom knows that, but first he wants me to let go, clear fear and fully forgive myself before further details are revealed.  I’ve decided to be completely transparent as I call forth this rally of grand reconnection.

My pledge to you is that I will play no games.   I’d rather give it to you raw and unpolished then waste time on strategizing the perfect launch.  That’s not my style.   Can you handle my wildness?   Can you follow a leader who is only a half step ahead in his own pursuit?  I prefer to believe that if you want more money to come your way as a result of your most authentic expression then, you’ll join me if you feel it in your heart.

Although it helps, everything doesn’t have to be expertly marketed.  I’d rather err on the side of authentic full disclosure and trust that you are wise enough to know the real deal when you feel it.

I promise you this.  The connection experiences I deliver will always be one-of-a-kind originals.   Together we’ll go deep, connect and bring forth your sweetest, purest self.  We’ll ride the camaraderie of unconditional support and authentic validation all the way to the bank!

Since we are all connected, I trust that you’ll recognize the wisdom in offering a hand up to your fellows who also may have struggled in this pursuit.  I trust that you’ll look in your heart and email this post to whoever comes into your mind.

I know this for sure.  You can reconnect your big link and by working together we can all get their sooner.  Open your heart my friend.  Feel your warrior within standing tall and strong as you consider this sacred pursuit.

It will be a blast to watch something this big evolve.  But I want more for you than a ringside seat.  I want you to reconnect your own link between authenticity and abundance and become a player in life’s greatest game.

Get ready to ring your own bell by making a declaration, a confession and forgiving yourself.  It’s beautifully cleansing work.  Fear not, you’ll come out the other side stronger and more determined to be rich, fulfilled and wildly entertained, just by being you.

Celebrate Your Strangeness

I was engaged in some rapid channel changing and heard a speaker at the Michael Jackson memorial service telling Jackson’s children not to believe that their Dad was strange.  Huh?   This speaker meant well but you and I both know that Jackson was about as strange as one could be. iStock_000006278956XSmall

And his strangeness made him rich.

Being strange and having the courage to express your strangeness is a very good thing.

We tend to revere oddness and weird exceptionality in our celebrities but at the same time caution against standing out from the crowd.

But only good things can happen by being strange.

We need to embrace our strangeness, bring it forth and express it.  In fact our strangeness is the business edge we’ve looking for.

Shopping malls make me want to puke.  Their sameness is depressing.

How likely are you to want to do business with the most common, normal, regular, standard and usual option you can find?

Wouldn’t you rather invest in a relationship with someone astonishing, astounding, atypical, bizarre, curious, different, eccentric, exceptional, extraordinary, fantastic, far-out, marvelous, rare, remarkable, wonderful, or unheard of?

Expressed strangeness can be very good for business.  I understand that many of you struggle declaring a niche.  How about choosing a niche that spotlights your peculiarities?

Here are some of my most sincere wishes.

I wish that we could only fit in by standing out.

I wish it were forbidden to allow fear to stop you.

I wish it were illegal to settle for less than you could be or have.

I wish we were all encouraged to embrace our strangeness from cradle to grave.

Have you been holding back for fear of not fitting it?

We all fall prey to it in one way or another.  I want to encourage you to celebrate your authentic strangeness.

If you’re self-employed, your strangeness could be the only thing that will save your ass.

But strangeness can be a shy, odd cousin who’s been kept in the basement far too long.  You may have to coax it out gradually.  Here are a few hints on how to invite your strangeness out.

1). What do you deeply care about, so much so that you’re willing to take a stand for it?  Identify that and you’ll be better able to identify the specific strangeness that could give you your edge in the marketplace.

2). What eccentricities do you secretly admire about yourself?  If you thought that your pot of gold were at the end of the rainbow of utter transparency –  would you reveal yourself fully?

3). Where do you tend to say screw being cautious, push societal limits and take concepts to the extreme?  Here’s where your big balls are found and we all know the glory that can be seized with a big set of balls.  Don’t fret, if you can identify this extreme it’s a given that you have the strengths and capacity to pull it off.

4). What abnormalities are you curiously attracted to?  Within this area of singular fascination could be the personal breakthrough you’ve been yearning for.

Your commonness is killing you. Being common is boring and unattractive. It’s hard for us to notice the normal you.

Please be your strange self and we’ll love you even more.

In your comment will you answer one of the questions above?  I’ll get us going. Here’s my answer to number 3.

I tend to take authenticity to an extreme wildness.  I abhor appropriateness because I think it’s boring conditioning.  Thus I’ve been called too raw, too direct and even obnoxious.  But I love my raw, fearless nature because it allows me to steadfastly champion my coaching clients who want to blaze trails of their own.

Beliefs Are Bad For Business

Beliefs are sneaky.  Beliefs influence our ability and restrict opportunities often without us even being aware that we have them.  It’s a sound business practice to frequently examine and question your beliefs.

Beliefs can limit flexibility and openness while promoting rigidity.  Rigidity tends to limit opportunity.  Incredibly we often believe things for which we have no proof, especially when it comes to matters of self-assessment.

Belief is putting regard in something as true. This wide range of synonyms astounded me because they all can be used to describe a belief even though they inspire quite different meaning strength.

Synonyms: acceptance, admission, assent, assumption, assurance, avowal, axiom, certainty, conclusion, confidence, conjecture, conviction, credence, credit, deduction, divination, expectation, faith, fancy, feeling, guess, hope, hypothesis, idea, impression, intuition, judgment, knowledge, mind, mindset, notion, opinion, persuasion, position, postulation, presumption, presupposition, profession, reliance, supposition, surmise, suspicion, theorem, theory, thesis, thinking, trust, understanding, view.

Some beliefs can seem very flimsy, especially when we think of a belief as an assumption, a guess, a notion or merely a feeling.

But that’s how all beliefs take root.  We hear someone say something or read it and we assume it to be true.  A statement can be made about your own capacity or about business in general and you could lose out because of your belief in that statement.

Anyone and everyone occasionally can get down on herself or himself.  The good news is that we don’t have to get down and stay there.  Worrying about beliefs is wasteful.  It’s far more productive to use language and questioning to challenge our limiting beliefs.

Worry is an abuse of imagination.  Steve Chandler

Of course not all beliefs are limiting or negative some can be very inspiring.  But even positive beliefs can be limiting.  It makes me question whether we’d be better off without beliefs at all. Would it really matter if we just experienced life in the moment as it comes?

Here are some empowering questions to challeneg and refresh your beliefs.

What do I believe that does not serve me well about my business or myself?

Can I point to proof that supports this belief?

What would I rather believe?

What do I want to believe about my business or myself?

What could I do now to create what I want?

What limiting beliefs would I be better off simply letting go?

What one thing am I creating that uplifts me?

How could I increase my willingness to start fresh with a beginners mind and boldly create that thing?

Five Disturbing Ways To Make More Money

If you want to make more money you must radically disturb your current money making methods and disrupt your money earning patterns.  istock_000007398707xsmall

To earn more money you must vigorously shake things up.

In this post I talked about doubling your income.  By March I had increased my income but I was falling short of doubling it. I knew that I’d have to adjust to achieve my annual objective.

The thing I love about being a one-man conglomerate is, I am the company. The self-employed can turn things around on a dime, try more stuff, fail faster and adjust.

Earning money is such a wonderfully twisted, emotionally laden experience.  Perhaps you’ve recognized the futility of trying to figure it all out.  Even those who earn a ton of the stuff are still in fear of it, or more accurately in fear of losing it.

When it comes to making money about the only thing we can count on is confidence.  Somehow income increases along with confidence.

But the part that most folks miss is the brilliance of individuality in creating confidence.  Moneymaking methods that universally work well are more hype than fact.  What works for someone else is most likely will not work for you.

So how can you confidently express your individuality to earn more money?

Shake things up.  Disturb the hell out of what’s not working.

From a state of being shaken you’ll be more likely to take frequent action, embrace mistake making and choose again.  That doesn’t happen from a state of certainty.  Certainty encourages us want to stand pat.

Trial and error are crucial to unearth your freedom.  As long as you are willing to fail again you are as close to freedom as you’ll ever be.  Egbert Sukop

Here are five agitators that have seemed to work for me.  I can’t tell you what combination will work best for you – that’s the beauty of individuality.  But if you want to make more money, begin by engaging the strategy that scares you the most.

1). Triple your service and double your fee. Step up and play a bigger game.  Increase the value of your service by increasing your commitment to your client.  Increase the value of your service by increasing your consciousness about your client’s business.  Increase the value of your service by coming up with ways to make your client’s clients more prosperous.  People pay you what YOU think you’re worth.

2). Flaunt your individuality. Really how are you different?  What quirks define you that you can bring forth in service to the world?  Our world is half-empty without the expression of your sweet spot.  Our world is half-full when you have the balls to even consider coming all the way out.  Being your wild self is liberating as hell and others want to encourage your liberation by supporting you.

3). Carry a flag that rallies your niche. Understand what that flag represents to those who are drawn to rally round it.   I carry two flags.   I carry the flag of self-employment because self-employment offers the most supportive structure for freedom and individuality.

I also carry the flag of coaching because the essence of coaching is insight discovery.  Coaching accelerates realizations and demands living an examined life.  At least the way I do it.

I absolutely love coaching the self-employed who want to earn more money and freedom by flaunting their individuality.  I also love coaching courageous first time entrepreneurs through the process of business discovery, launch and startup.

I carry the flag by challenging first timers to leave the slavery of employment and by challenging the already self-employed to express themselves even more boldly.

That is my sweet spot and the world is a better place because I’m fully engaged and fiercely serving there.  If you can’t boldly make a statement like that – then you are playing too small.

To make more money – play a bigger game.

4). Ruthlessly simplify. Simplification encourages clarity.   Clarity empowers focus.  Quit trying to be all things to all people.  Start saying no thank you more often.  Cut down on everything.  Become a missile of destruction to everything that does not serve you well.  Constantly question your activities by asking these questions.  “Will this increase my earnings?  Does this directly increase the value of my service?”

The more simple and focused your life is, the more wealth will be created.  Steve Chandler

5). Increase your willingness to choose.
Then see what happens, adjust and choose anew.  Delay is always costly.  Delay almost always signifies the victory of fear over choice.  What would increase your willingness to choose?  Do that.

Make your decisions more valuable by seeking out many more options before deciding.  Anything you can see in hindsight was there in foresight; so keep looking and expanding your options.

After deciding then commit with every fiber in your being.  Really go for it.  Come alive by backing your own choices until it’s clear that they aren’t working and then swiftly repeat the process.

Commitment without attachment to results is empowerment in action.

Quit standing pat.

Shake things up.

Be your bad ass self and earn more money.

Time and Money

For about 8 months now, I’ve seen the solution for my time crunch.  The solution was to create more effective work standards that honored my chosen priorities.  And in the midst of making the necessary productivity adjustments, I’m presented with even more opportunities to learn and grow my business. time-010

Many of you may feel the same way.  The gifts of a more connected, technologically driven world have come packaged in what appears to be ever-increasing demands on our time.  So even as we continue to adjust, the feeling of never catching up keeps building.

The world is smaller and faster, but I’ve created this pressure by declaring my desire to double my income this year while truly understanding the connection between authenticity and prosperity.

I’m off to a fine start, but I’d like to feel lighter and more on top of things than I often do.  I’m not reading as many blog posts as I’d like to, but for some reason I did read this one about our relationship with money, by Slade Roberson.  I did the exercise yesterday and was hit with a powerful realization just this morning.

Time Is Money?

Here’s my realization.  I’m acting, as though I believe in the expression time is money.

A person who wants to earn more and also feels as though he doesn’t have the time to do, all that he needs to do, (to earn more), obviously equates time with money.

I must hold the belief that I need to do a lot to earn a lot more money.  Furthermore, I was feeling the pressure because that belief is in direct conflict with my higher belief, of prosperity through authenticity.

Do you see the disconnection? Authenticity is an unlimited concept of being, one of accepting what is. Time and money are limited concepts of doing, more about working to change what is.

Thinking one doesn’t have enough time or enough money are both resisting what is.  From the thought of not having enough, it’s a small step, to not being enough – and that is a very inauthentic way of being.

What to do about this? Well, according to Eckhart Tolle, I don’t have to do anything.  He claims that the moment we see the dysfunction, it begins to dissolve.

If the thought of lack–whether it be money, recognition, or love–has become who you think you are, you will always experience lack.  Acknowledging the good that is already in your life is the foundation for all abundance. Eckhart Tolle

Ouch!  Thinking that we don’t have enough time sure sounds like a focus on the lack of it.  It’s my intention to change these scarcity beliefs through awareness.  That seems like the best course of action right now.

What do you think?

Be Authentic and Grow Rich

The connection between authenticity and wealth cries out for illumination. I coach and write to inspire and to encourage. This year, I’ve chosen a theme by which to guide my work – Prosperity through Authenticity.

Many have experienced the emptiness of wealth without purpose. Others have experienced authenticity without prosperity.  Fewer have experienced both financial abundance and authenticity, simultaneously.

Check out these Google search results.

“making money”            20,800,000
“being authentic”                  184,000
“authentic money making”        104
“making money authentically”      3

What’s wrong with this picture? Millions of search results claim to have the money making answer, yet so few are making as much money as they want to be making.

Is it possible that the masses are approaching this question from the wrong entry point?

Or perhaps they aren’t asking the right question at all?

What is the missing link that bridges the divide between authenticity and prosperity?

I’m not asking you to answer the above question. In fact we’d all be better served to ponder deeper questions over time, instead of making a mad rush for solutions. In the interest of high self-regard, each of us needs to reflect on the connection between authenticity and prosperity.

But are you curious?  Are you satisfied with the many methods and solutions that over-populate the Web?

A good copywriter can make rotten fish smell pretty sweet. I’ve clicked through to read some of these moneymaking schemes, as I’m sure you have. The shallow stench of nothingness sickens me.

The dearth of genuine value is one reason for the collapse of our financial markets. All of this empty marketing, for the sake of marketing alone, smells of the same inauthentic bullshit.

Isn’t it time to get real? One way is to wipe your slate clean with a big, powerful, authentic eraser of the fresh new start.

There’s an inherent promise that comes with being authentic.

Be all of who you are and the world will support your authentic expression.

It makes perfect sense that we ought to be lavishly supported, for fully being who we are. The world doesn’t owe you a living but it certainly does want to support the most authentic version of who you are.

Why then is financially abundant authenticity such an illusive state to reach?

What is the question that if you knew the answer, would set you free? Peter Block

This is the question I’m looking for regarding authentic prosperity. Stay tuned, more authentic musings to come.

An Authentic Approach to Making More Money

This post is dedicated to those of you who need to get your moneymaking shit together.

Have you been challenging assumptions and considering business options? If you want to earn more from your small business, next year, read on. I’m not going to give you the secret to anything. My intention is to inspire you to wakeup, see where you are and act!

I’m offering a fresh starting point for authentic business planning. If you want to increase your earnings, you’ve got to replace your monkey planning and become more intentional in building your business.

Every time I write about making more money, someone always comments, “it’s not all about the money.” No shit. I get that. But if you feel the need to say it, perhaps it’s more about the money than you’d like to admit. I understand that fulfillment, freedom of expression and autonomy hold a higher value for many of you than making more money. But next year I intend to work less and earn more simply because I can. So can you.

Since each of us has the capability to create the business results we most want, why don’t we? It’s not simply a lack of belief. Most of you agree that anything is possible. What’s missing or what needs to be adjusted, to produce more lucrative small business results?

A big part of authenticity is having the balls to really look at what you’ve produced and what you haven’t. You can dream big and be very genuine, but if that isn’t producing buckets of cash perhaps, you’re already as authentic as you need to be. Since you already have an authentic grounding perhaps your best adjustment is a more strategic one.

The first place to look is at your big-picture business reflection and decision-making process. Do you have one? If you don’t consciously reflect on your business, you could fall prey to the random influences of those with stronger intentions.

I’ve realized that authenticity; natural optimism, and possibility thinking alone, – do not create sustainable success. Just because we can think big, – doesn’t mean that we do. Spiritual evolution does not take the place of business practices like following-through. I’ve realized that my wild ass desires and imaginings need to be grounded within a dynamic, intentional master plan.

Without an intentional business reflection and decision-making process our businesses often end up with unintentional results. Consider another way. It begins with slowing down, stepping back and consciously choosing. Without reflection and big picture thinking, strategic decisions remain unmade. If you fail to make a decision, you’ve made one anyway, and that default decision is far less likely to serve you well.

Begin with an honest assessment. We don’t know what we don’t know and shining a light of greater awareness generally illuminates sticking points. I’m going to share some places that used to bog me down in hopes that you’ll notice if you’re stuck in the same locale.

Stuck in Discovery

Discovery is such a juicy place for lifetime learners. Even when aware, we often don’t want to leave. Researching, learning, and staying on top of things are all wonderful excuses for failing to act. If only those excuses paid off like action does.

Good intentions cannot weather the assault of an infinite number of online gurus screaming to sell us the latest secret to exploding our business to the next level. I’m so sick of all this next level puke. Screw the next level. How about building a solid foundation instead?

Like most of you, I’m looking for ways to work less and earn more. But that’s the challenge; most of the stuff we read promises that. Excellent copy writing speaks to our emotional craving and reels us in until we stop searching for the secret. Stuck here? Pause and ask, “What exactly am I looking for?” Look for that and that only. Find it and act on it.

Stuck in Place

At least when stuck in discovery we have the illusion of movement. Stuck in place, – is just plain frozen in denial or avoidance. If you’ve been feeling like somethings got to give, then you may need to wakeup to the facts. Quit waiting for an outside intervention. No one is coming to save your ass.

Surviving isn’t thriving. Getting by is getting old. How many times are you going to pull it out at the last minute, before one time, you just don’t?

If you almost never market when times are good and then desperately over-market when the valleys hit, – you really aren’t doing much strategic thinking, are you? Perhaps a few strategic adjustments are called for? But first, take a hard look at where you are and what you earned last year. Look at what worked and what didn’t, and choose some new actions.

Stuck in a Small Mindset

How do some corporations mange to make a profit in spite of their faulty policies and their poor decisions? It’s catching up to them; they just have more wiggle room than we do. They just can’t see what they aren’t looking for and as solopreneurs we are not immune.

We don’t know what we don’t know. If you don’t work with a coach, then work with someone who will ask you the challenging questions. Sign up for this free phone class and I’ll ask you the questions before you even dial the phone.

We especially aren’t aware of the limited beliefs. You could be working a business model or following a mindset that does not serve you well. Your adjustment could be a very small change in perspective that could lead to a big gain. But you won’t see it, if you don’t know where to look. I’ll bet that you’re thinking way too small in some critical areas right now.

I love this time of the year as a small businessperson. This is our time, for reflection, big picture thinking and strategic decisions. But if you don’t choose to make any adjustments you could earn what you earned last year. You’re capable of so much more and you know it.

Tell me where to take the follow-up post to this one. I’m considering writing about my decision-making process, but I’d like to address what you think you need. Speak up please!
