How to Live a Simpler Life without a Walking Dead Apocalypse

The Walking Dead - Season 2, Episode 1 - Photo Credit: Greg Nicotero/AMC - hills_amcWhen I watch the excellent Walking Dead series I’m drawn to living a simpler life.  The urgency of making your homestead zombie free is obviously simple.

I’m drawn to the simpler life of surviving and of finding shelter, food and safety in these stories.

Have you ever had this thought?  I think it would be easier for me to thrive in a post-apocalyptic setting then in today’s society.  Perhaps it’s the fresh start and the level playing field.

Could I actually be sick and tired of personal development and self-actualizing?  Or is the appeal really the opportunity for a complete life do-over?

Maybe it’s because I think as a coach I would be a very natural and valuable leader in such a post-apocalyptic scenario.  What about you? Ever find yourself longing for simpler living?

What do you find specifically appealing about making a fresh simpler start?  Is it, living a simpler life or the crystal clarity about what really matters?  Survival is clear and simple and it’s obviously practical.

How many aspects of your current life can you say really matters to you?

I don’t know about you but I’m not going to dropout completely and go raise chickens in isolation. I’m also not going to wait for the plague to wipe us out so I can fight zombies.

I think it’s more courageous to fight the zombie-like aspects of the lives we’re already living.  Really how much of your current life brings you vividly alive?

So what choices do you have if you crave the clarity and meaning of a simpler life?

You could start by asking the following questions and honoring your responses with action.

What could I drop or cut out of my life today that would make it much simpler right away?

What areas of my life are too unclear to even choose a new direction?

What choice might clear things up for me?

What doesn’t much matter at all that eats up my time and attention?

What really matters where I’m pretending that it doesn’t?

The truth is life is as simple or complicated as we have decided it needs to be.  You can decide to make a fresh start right now.  Answer those questions and take one small action towards simpler living.

If you really can’t wait and want some radically fearless help then go here and ask for it.  As your  life coach I’ll be your fearless partner in this life as well.

How to Start Over In a New Career

Start over in a new career possibilitiesWhat if starting over in new career was far easier than you think it is?  If you’re dying from the inside trying to live in a toxic work environment – rejoice!  That dissatisfaction is your life trying to get you to see that you can make a move and start over.

That’s the purpose of contrast. Without those deadening work experiences you might remain blind and deaf to even the possibility of making a fresh new start over.

The first step is to be grateful for that feeling that you’ve got to get out.  Honor the urge to escape the corporate politics and unexplainable management decisions.  Just look yourself in the mirror and say thank you.

Thank you for presenting enough pain in my life to urge me to make my move.

Then you must being to tell yourself a story of hope, gratitude and possibility instead of a prison-locking story of despair. Statements like those that follow only keep you locked into one possibility.

I’m stuck because I’ll never make as much money on my own.  I hate my job but I don’t know what to do about it.  It’s a tough economy I’d be crazy to leave now.  I can’t start my own business because I don’t know where to start.

You must let go of all of those limiting one-way conclusions or that’s the only options you’ll see.

Instead declare and acknowledge out loud, that you are at choice to start over in a new career.

The swiftest change comes from asking the most positively powerful questions like this one.

Thank you for helping me to see that I have choices, what are all the possibilities?

Right there is your key on how to start over in a new career because it combines gratitude, choice and possibility.

Most who remain hoping but never act do not allow themselves to dare ask, what else is possible?

Did you notice that I did not talk about the specific new career you might start over in? That’s because the possibilities only can surface after gratitude is expressed and choice is acknowledged.

One more important tip – do not try to answer a possibility question with your conscious mind.  Just ask it and live with the question unanswered for a while. That way the Universe can go to work by helping you to see all the possibilities.

If you allow your mind to answer the following question, it can only respond by giving you options that you already know.

Thank you for helping me to see that  am at choice, what are all the possibilities?

So here is your action step. Right now ask this question 10 times in a row and then comment on how you feel about your possibilities.

Thank you for helping me to see that I have many choices, what are all the possibilities?

If you are ready to make your move even faster contact me now to discuss the possibilities.

Starting Over With Honor

Starting over no matter how far you’ve fallen, is more surely accomplished with self-honor.

Self-honor begins with telling the truth to yourself about what’s really happening in your life.

Self-honor is making the decision you are most afraid to make.

Self-honor is asking for help when you know another perspective would illuminate possibilities.

Self-honor is taking the time to understand what you really, really want so you can declare that you want it.

Self-honor is understanding why you want something and having the courage to go for it.

Most of all self-honor is doing what you can do now to act on what you really want.

Without action you are just talk.  Action clarifies.  Without clarity of direction and path, it’s difficult to hold yourself in the high regard of self-honor.

You know where you have been running, hiding and avoiding your truth.  Honor your own truth today and watch your life transform.

Three Ways To Build Self-Confidence

We create unnecessary pressure in our pursuit of career or business success. Since both fulfillment and money are attracted to confidence, building your natural confidence is essential.

Here are the three most powerful ways to do so that I’ve learned in thirteen years of coaching.

1). Seek wisdom within, not without. Before you can start an authentic business you must believe in yourself enough to make the move. Beliefs determine possibility. Resolve and determination come from clearing limiting beliefs and accomplishing small wins.

Desire = Proof of Capacity. If you did not have what it takes to complete and idea – that idea would not have come to you. You are enough. In fact you are more than enough to complete the purpose you came here to complete. BUT you cannot keep searching for “the” secret to success on the outside. Your secret to success is only found within.

2). Make the decision you fear making the most. Decision-making is an active affair. Even if you’ve hit rock bottom and need to start completely over again you can do it by being more decisive. The best decisions are made and acted on. We are adaptable beings but if you remain a thinker and never a doer, you won’t get the opportunity to adapt. Without action your best possibilities remain hidden from your view.

Waiting serves no one. Any movement works. You must get in play and walk down the corridor to see what doors will open. You can’t see them without taking action. You’ll remain blind to your best opportunities unless you start now.

3). Understand and act on the basis that you are not your past. You only hesitate to do what you want to do because you believe more in your past than in your magnificent possibilities. Your past is primarily based on the erroneous assessments of others. Their opinions do not count when it comes to creating the life and business you want. You are far more than your past. Your past only exists to show you the wisdom of contrast. By seeing what you don’t want and filliping it – you’ll be able to see what you really want.

Your majorpoint of adjustment lies within none of these three.  Which is it for you?

It’s not too late; you can start completely over and make a fresh start.

You have what it takes to get what you want.

You can find your natural confidence.

You can see and make your special right path decision.

When you make that right path decision you will have the confidence to follow through and finish what you start.

If you’ve always wanted to make the leap to the freedom of self-employment but need more confidence then you can …

Stop The Madness

Get To The Heart of the Matter

All madness stems from too much head and too little heart.

I’m not talking about certifiable insanity but the regular, daily madness that drives us crazy.

The way out of any challenge is to find a point of hopeful willingness. That’s the point where you can clearly see a next step action and you feel inspired to take it.

That point doesn’t come from over-thinking. It doesn’t come from asking why. And it seldom comes from searching for a better how to. Those are all head games and head games are complex.

Instead you must get to the heart of the matter in two different ways.

1). The first way is to go deep, connect with your heartfelt desires and come from within out.

Ask yourself.

Deep in my heart what do I care about the most here? If I put my dear self first in an extraordinary demonstration of self-love what might I do? What do I really want?

If you are looking too much at outside conditions and circumstances you’re looking in the wrong place.

2). The second way to get to the heart of the matter is, to boil it down to its essence.

Brevity creates clarity and clarity empowers. Boiling it down best occurs with persistent, audacious inquiry. Ask yourself.

What’s really going on here? What else? If I could answer the question that would save my ass, what would that question be?

Stay with the inquiry until you hit upon a startling truth that smells very clean and fresh.

Combine that truth/action in service of what you really want and the madness will stop.

It doesn’t matter how long you’ve been down or what’s going on around you. What matters is in your heart. What matters is getting to core, boiled down clarity and acting now.

There is no limit to the number of fresh starts you can make.
Audacious inquiry will save you every time.

Give It Your All & Go For It

iStock_000007136260XSmallGiving it your all is more than investing courageous effort and determination.  Giving it your all means going for it with everything you’ve got.  You have many more resources, connections, energetic intentions and accumulated good than you imagine you do.

You’ll realize this (as some of you already have) once you hold nothing back and accept the sacred mission of acting on your true calling.  I admit I was once skeptical when I read stories of heavenly bliss.  How could anyone be that aligned and feel that good?  I now know that those authors must have reconnected their link between authenticity and abundance.

Each and every one of us arrived here as little balls of determined energy ready to soak it all up and go for our unique greatness.  But our caregivers’ reactions to life challenges and our false assumptions all combined to erode our original essence.  In order to enjoy a right livelihood of abundant fulfillment and financial prosperity we need to reconnect with our original, potent presence.

I’ve been called to deliver powerful experiences so you can feel the very real energy of reconnection.  If you’re just coming to this party read this about authentic reconnection and this for instruction on starting the process.

I intend to create dynamic, supportive environments for immersion into the energy, connection and state of our original uniqueness.

Trust happens in the experience of being accepted, respected and heard. Actual words matter less.  Julio Olalla

These experiences will inspire (those who are bold enough to fully play) to go for it and give it their all.   One concept and process that especially accelerated my progress is the active work of inviting Divine coalescence.

If you are ready to fully commit to this transformative work then listen to this guided mediation that will get you in sync with Divine Coalescence.

[podcast]http://www.delightfulwork.com/audios/coalesence.mp3[/podcast]

Reconnecting this authentic link is a group experience.   You’ll make it sooner if you offer a hand up and describe (by commenting) how you felt after the mediation to those who may think they can’t spare 10 minutes to invest in their bliss.

Starting Over

starting overStarting over at any age is more than possible. I get occasional emails from desperate readers who think they have totally screwed up their lives.  They think they can’t afford to hire me as their coach but they reach out, hoping for help.

I’ll often ask them to do something simple, like read a blog post and email me back what came up for them.  Or I’ll send them a couple of questions by email.  But rather than just answering the damn questions – they’ll write back telling some pathetic story about why they can’t start over.  Bull! Starting over is really your only choice.

It really doesn’t matter how far you’ve fallen or how long you’ve been down.  I know.  I’ve hit bottom and we can always wipe the slate clean and make a fresh start. Always.  At any notch, on the way down, I could have decided to stop there and start over.  I’ve written this post for everyone who thinks it’s too late to create the life or business you most want.

What if there was only one universal truth and all we had to do was get busy following that simple message?

Would you follow this message?

Starting Over

Be yourself.  Stay present.  Trust yourself.  Take frequent action.  Start over.

What if you didn’t need to know anymore than you know right now in order to turn your life around?

What if you are already brilliant enough and equipped enough to get what you want?

What if you already know what you need to know to make your best move?

What if you’ve repeatedly made the right decision but for some reason you’ve second-guessed yourself and needlessly stopped short of action?

You are closer than you think you are.  You’re almost over the hump.  Starting over is always a matter of being present and letting go of the past. Your desire is telling you where you need to go and most likely you just need to be bolder sooner while going for it.

Just because there appears to be a lot of folks selling you how-to and what-to-do, you don’t have to buy it.  Often they only know what’s best for them.

You are the best source of your own wisdom.

For a couple of weeks now I’ve been thinking about this commonly shared story about the gold rushes.  There is a mini series showing right now called Klondike that illustrates my point. History shows that more folks got wealthy by selling pans, lumber, shovels, sex, booze and supplies, to the seekers of riches, than those who actually struck it rich.

This story is now told to illustrate the wisdom for becoming a how-to-get-rich info marketer.  The promise is, by selling books, audios, videos and memberships sites, that teach others how to get rich, you’ll get rich.

Like many of you, I’ve been intrigued by the possibility of online riches.  In the past, I’ve shelled out my bucks for all kinds of “can’t miss” info-products and deals.

But here’s why I’ve been questioning this modern day gold rush.  I think, just like the original, it may be a business model based on illusion.  An illusion based business model is one that sells more hope than substance.  Am I nuts or is this really closer to the truth?

image53

We say we like connecting, expressing and media socializing, but how much of this would we be doing, if we didn’t think that it would lead us to finding online gold?

I go back and forth on how best to claim online gold.  I question the value of social media frequently, yet I’m still using it, so I’m not judging any method.  If anything I’m confused as hell as to where it’s all going?  But I’ve learned that confusion often signals opportunity.

I do know this; when I stake my own claim, in this online gold rush, I’ll only sell a how-to system that helps you to express and promote your own uniqueness. That’s the best shot we all have at riches.

Your best shot at riches is to express your authentic uniqueness.

I’ll only sell what I and my clients have proven. That’s why I’m such an advocate for life coaching. Coached people more often create the lives and businesses they want to create. Coached people take more action so they fail and succeed faster, sooner.

Those who think they can go it alone without a mentor or coach are the really crazy ones.

Coaching works because it respects and honors individuality.  Any coach worth his or her fee will help you to take action swiftly and do it your way in a way that promotes your uniqueness.

Some of what I know will work for you and some won’t.  It’s my job as coach, to create the structure and environment that will have you repeatedly choosing, acting, failing and adjusting.

Fail faster better.

Fail more often and you increase the probability of succeeding.  Get to a place of not giving a chit about the outcomes and you’ll try more things.  Try more things and you’ll increase the probability of stumbling on something that works.  How’s that for certainty?

It doesn’t’ matter how often you fail and have to start over.  What does matter is that you do start over. Starting over is your new lease on life. Jump in and enjoy.

Start over. Be yourself.   Stay present.  Trust yourself.  Take frequent action.   Start over.

Off Kilter, Pissed and Real

Life speaks to us all the time.  Mine wouldn’t let me sleep last night.  I had some unexpressed anger to feel, so I got up at 4 AM and wrote it out.  My favorite anger release is to go outside and play “Little John” by smacking some dead trees with my staff, but it’s too damn cold for that. sunburst_space1

Anger is an emotion that begins first as a feeling (physical vibration) in our bodies. But if we don’t give it the space and time to be felt, it will just duck under the covers of our consciousness and come back to bite us in the ass later.  Feelings don’t morph into emotions until we attach thoughts to them. When we don’t feel a feeling and instead judge it as good or bad, it must surface in the way we’ve labeled it.

On Monday I got some disappointing feedback, not in its truth but in its delivery.  I’d shared my vulnerability with a friend and asked him to be gentle, supportive and encouraging, regardless of the quality of the work I’d submitted, for his review.  For some unknown reason, he was unnecessarily harsh.  But since I wanted the feedback, I silently listened and took notes. Interestingly I’d just written about support and speaking up.

I knew that my friend’s behavior was just a trigger for a deeper self-anger that I’d buried.  I’ve previously shared the techniques I use to feel my feelings and about the power in begin pissed.  So I’ll not cover that ground again.  But I would like to write about accepting our darker sides.

Authenticity isn’t just something that we express when every thing is coming up roses. It’s also authentic to be pissed when you feel off kilter and anger is trying to surface.  Years ago I quit wearing the mask of false happiness. While writing this I was tweeting back and forth with fellow coach Tim Brownson when he half-jokingly said.

I don’t even know what authentic is other than to be doing what I want to be doing. Tim Brownson

Thanks Tim, that seems like a pretty powerful definition to me.
But is it advisable to share ones authentic darker side, in a public forum like Twitter?

A well-known social media expert recently tweeted something like this. “Don’t share anything here that you wouldn’t put up on billboards all over town.” Even that pissed me off, because he seemed to be saying, “wear the mask – don’t be real – be careful.” Bullshit to that! I wouldn’t pay to express my anger on a billboard but I’ll not run from it either.

Perhaps people, who play it safe and cautious, end up doing business with others who also value appropriateness over authenticity. I guess playing it safe could be genuine for them. But when I see someone holding back, I question his or her integrity. I think trust comes first, from simply being real.

I’ll close with my favorite three stanzas from The Invitation, by Oriah Mountain Dreamer.

It doesn’t interest me how old you are.
I want to know if you will risk looking like a fool
for love
for your dream
for the adventure of being alive.

It doesn’t interest me what planets are squaring your moon…
I want to know if you have touched the centre of your own sorrow
if you have been opened by life’s betrayals
or have become shriveled and closed
from fear of further pain.

I want to know if you can sit with pain
mine or your own
without moving to hide it
or fade it
or fix it.   Oriah Mountain Dreamer

Be Authentic and Grow Rich

The connection between authenticity and wealth cries out for illumination. I coach and write to inspire and to encourage. This year, I’ve chosen a theme by which to guide my work – Prosperity through Authenticity.

Many have experienced the emptiness of wealth without purpose. Others have experienced authenticity without prosperity.  Fewer have experienced both financial abundance and authenticity, simultaneously.

Check out these Google search results.

“making money”            20,800,000
“being authentic”                  184,000
“authentic money making”        104
“making money authentically”      3

What’s wrong with this picture? Millions of search results claim to have the money making answer, yet so few are making as much money as they want to be making.

Is it possible that the masses are approaching this question from the wrong entry point?

Or perhaps they aren’t asking the right question at all?

What is the missing link that bridges the divide between authenticity and prosperity?

I’m not asking you to answer the above question. In fact we’d all be better served to ponder deeper questions over time, instead of making a mad rush for solutions. In the interest of high self-regard, each of us needs to reflect on the connection between authenticity and prosperity.

But are you curious?  Are you satisfied with the many methods and solutions that over-populate the Web?

A good copywriter can make rotten fish smell pretty sweet. I’ve clicked through to read some of these moneymaking schemes, as I’m sure you have. The shallow stench of nothingness sickens me.

The dearth of genuine value is one reason for the collapse of our financial markets. All of this empty marketing, for the sake of marketing alone, smells of the same inauthentic bullshit.

Isn’t it time to get real? One way is to wipe your slate clean with a big, powerful, authentic eraser of the fresh new start.

There’s an inherent promise that comes with being authentic.

Be all of who you are and the world will support your authentic expression.

It makes perfect sense that we ought to be lavishly supported, for fully being who we are. The world doesn’t owe you a living but it certainly does want to support the most authentic version of who you are.

Why then is financially abundant authenticity such an illusive state to reach?

What is the question that if you knew the answer, would set you free? Peter Block

This is the question I’m looking for regarding authentic prosperity. Stay tuned, more authentic musings to come.

Parlay Your Wisdom

What’s your greatest business or blogging realization of 2008? Let’s give a great gift of wisdom to one another.

To realize means coming to understand something clearly and distinctly.

The time to act on a fresh realization is soon after its awakening. There’s an energy there that can be harnessed to drive positive change.  Feel the power in these synonyms for realization: enlivening, recognition, vigilance, alertness, quickening.

Yet when we fail to act, or fail to come to a decision based on the realization, it’s power diminishes.

Once aware, you have the power to act.  A realization is new wisdom, new awareness.  Realizing and not acting is walking away and leaving money on the table.

Even if your realization is personal, it can be parlayed into better business building.

What’s my greatest realization?

Getting a jump on things is essential to my personal productivity, project completions and peace of mind.

What do you need to do differently in order to capitalize on your realization? What do you need to do more of? What do you need to do less of?

My answer:

1). I’m better served to make decisions based on pre-determined, required, criteria, rather than saying yes to unplanned offers, distractions and unexpected opportunities that may not fit my criteria.

2).  I need to decide sooner, act more swiftly, and focus on chosen priorities more often.  This will help me get a jump on things and stay ahead of the game.   I need to determine how I’ll know I’m winning and keep my lead.  I function better with momentum, rather than coming from behind.  I no longer respond well to adrenaline based deadlines.

As solopreneurs, realizations are essential to business success because our personal productivity is the main driver and cause of our business productivity.

What about you? Are you willing to share this gift of wisdom?

What is your greatest business or blogging realization of 2008?

What do you need to do differently in order to capitalize on your realization? What do you need to do more of? What do you need to do less of?

For extra authenticity credit, consider answering one or more of the above questions before reading the other comments.
