Uniqueness Your Grandest Gift

berriesYour grandest gift is your blessing of uniqueness.  You are one in 6,789,819,852 people in the world.  Out of those almost 7 billion folks you are the one who is best equipped to create a profitable business following your true calling.

Look to the right of this post.  You’ll find a gift I’ve written in celebration of your uniqueness.  It’s a True Calling Guidebook that gives you 9 powerful compass points to work the true calling process.

If you dare to use it, you’ll no longer want to play a smaller game.

When we play too small, we have forgotten how magnificent we really are.

Playing too small amounts to not honoring your grandest gift.

Perhaps the possibility of discovering and engaging a true calling would not scare you so much if you accepted the reality of your certain greatness.

If you had heard others compliment your uniqueness often while growing up,  you would have an entirely higher opinion of yourself now.

Fully accept the sincere praise in this video and then I challenge you to tell me that you can’t engage your calling.   Imagine that everything you see in this video is true about you – because it is.

The True Calling Connection

Unity - People putting hands togetherTrue callings are big, ballsy and boldly uplifting. True callings invite you to ride a wave of reconnection that simply doesn’t allow small thinking.

Yes I’m talking about reconnecting your original link between authenticity (expressed true calling) and abundance but I’m also referring to a second reconnection – the deep connection of authentic souls to one another.

I want to talk about that second reconnection today.   My big idea is to create and facilitate experiential events where we accelerate the probability of fully engaged participants reconnecting their original link between expressed authenticity (true calling) and abundance.  The first ever live Big Link Rally is scheduled for January 2, 2010 in Pittsburgh Pennsylvania.

This original reconnection will occur sooner for each individual by linking together and creating present moment systems of deep trust.  It’s the connection to one another that opens us up to more vibrant life possibilities and makes a true calling become more evident.   Systems in nature evolve toward symbiotic relationships.  You want examples? Just look at the plants/flowers/bees/birds/seeds cycle.

People systems built on trust and mutual intent also provide order, support and stability.  Within such systems information is freely shared and dreams are nurtured.  The openness and playfulness of the group encourages even deeper connection and even more intentional self-honor.

Do you see how this connection to one another was weakened while growing up?  Our natural trust for one another was instead replaced by the fears of cultural conditioning.  These fears severed our support for one another and in the process severed our link to natural prosperity.

Our blessing of individual uniqueness ought to be all the proof we need to understand that the traditional business game of conformity, scarcity and competition is a myth.  Of course its dog eat dog if everyone is trying to eat the same dog. That game is only played and never really won, by those who fear their individuality.

Choose uniqueness instead.   Choose to engage differences through revering individual true callings to create greater gain and abundant benefits for all.

I’m creating playgrounds of right livelihood because by seeing the significance in my brother’s calling I can more assuredly find the courage to follow my own.  By catching the spirit of my sister’s calling I’m lifted and inspired to follow through and answer my own.

This first Pittsburgh event on January 2, will recreate what might have been had we all developed without the fear.  Can you imagine the lift?  Can you consider the likelihood of discovering a brand new calling together with others who hold the same vision while co-creating in vibrant New Year energy?

By trusting one another deeply, we evolve more rapidly, as we might have naturally, if we had always lived within mutually supportive environments of highly aware, intelligent connection.

Passion is evoked when we connect to others, purpose to purpose.  Meg Wheatley

Yes we are all connected and we can all play a bigger game by recognizing how much we mean to one another.  You are deeply important to me.   I love your wildness because it encourages my own.  Please bring all of you out to play.

Do not apologize for your emerging magnificence.  Those around you will either feel this call of connection or it will fall on dead ears. What has life become if we can’t freely share our exaltations for fear of offending others? Screw that!  Be your wild ass self please!

I accept that it’s my calling to poke, provoke and upset your apple cart.   That’s the whole point.  If you want both deep fulfillment and piles of money you may need to pull a new cart.  We’re in this together and attracted by your courageous calling we’ll all offer you a boost until you gather your momentum.

I am in such a clear blue field of glory right now that I can only inspire. I could use your help with a little grounding. If you have questions about discovering or validating true calling, with group connection, please ask them below.

If you really get what I’m saying try this experiment. Go forth and spread the word. Feel your awaiting connection to others on this sacred path.  Your soul will be nurtured by the authentic expression and the emerging heart to heart connection.

Evan Hadkins was naturally inspired to invite his readers  along for the ride to hear about new developments first here: Join us.

Can you feel our connection? What are you willing to do about it now?

Why Rock The Boat?

Good question isn’t it? I was coaching a prospective client on the possibility of launching his own business, even though, much of what his job provides, serves him well.  iStock_000008056679XSmall

He asked, why rock the boat? Indeed why?

Most folks who have come as far as he has (actively considering self-employment) already know that it’s just a matter of when not if.  They know they will make their move.  But this big, messy question merits an answer.

It’s messy because many beliefs and cultural norms weigh heavy in the consideration.

I’ve actually had people tell me that they place the obligation of earning well for their children in front of their own happiness.  Those folks need to ask their kids.   Most kids would rather their parents be fulfilled than rich.

Putting loved ones first is only a belief.  There is not one right way to seek ones freedom.  There is only your way.

If you have to ask about rocking the boat, a part of you knows that it’s sinking anyway.  You are in charge of your security and well being.  Your employer is not.

“But I’ll make less money working for myself than working for another. ” That’s just a belief as well.  I’ve seen folks launch new businesses quickly and out earn their employment within 90 days.

Beliefs are nothing more than temporary limits on our achievement. Yet many potential entrepreneurs have believed the same life constricting thoughts for years.

Please don’t take anything the major media says as gospel.  They report for the timid, the cautious and the fearful.  They do not serve you.

Why rock the boat?  Why risk it?  Why change the status quo?

Because the status quo is killing you.

It’s really a matter of self-honor.

It’s a matter of honoring your uniqueness.

Have you ever deeply questioned why we are all so unique from one another?

Don’t you think there’s a good reason behind our creation of differentiation?

Each individual can put himself or herself in a position that better honors his or her uniqueness.

Yep, the best reason to rock the boat is to rock it by putting yourself in the right position.   A football coach would never put a 350 behemoth at wide receiver.  That player would be way out of position and he would struggle and under perform as a result.

Football is actually a much more authentic model for honoring uniqueness than traditional career beliefs and business in general.

The more naturally aggressive and disruptive players play defense.
The more orderly and coachable players play offense.

Position is determined by natural proclivities of speed, bulk, strength, disposition and leadership.  Raw talent is molded and mastered by first starting in the area most likely to produce success.

Are you playing the right position that’s ideally suited for your career or business?

Perhaps like many folks, you’re simply out of position for your work.  By nature some folks are far better off being obedient employees.

But if you’ve always questioned authority, if you’ve always sought independence and if you’ve always blazed your own trails – please do everyone a favor and seize your freedom now.

Don’t just rock that boat – blow that mother up and swim your ass off for the shores of freedom, fulfillment and prosperity.

If you want a masterful coach who will swim right alongside you, contact me for an exploratory, no obligation, and boat-rocking session now.

To Hell With What They Say

I’m a 270-pound, 59 year old, with two ankle fusions, who is in training to play one more game of rugby.  Often they ask, why subject yourself to the very thing that destroyed all the cartilage in your ankles?  istock_000003152335xsmall2

What they may never understand is that while playing rugby I feel most like myself.  Most of my deeply fulfilling flow experiences have come on the rugby pitch.

I wonder, what’s your one more rugby game?

There is something in every one of you that waits and listens for the sound of the genuine in yourself. It is the only true guide you will ever have. And if you cannot hear it, you will all of your life spend your days on the ends of strings that somebody else pulls.
Howard Thurman

There is great value in doing something organic to who you are.  There is great honor in deciding – screw them.  Be.  Stand tall in your own skin.

A life of engaged authenticity carries great benefits and rewards.   Somehow this choice of authentic bliss extends to other areas of our lives.

The demonstration of unique self-honor creates an attractive self-confidence that cannot be created in less genuine ways.  It’s that bona fide self-confidence that makes us feel competent to life, as though we really fit the game of life.

Somewhere in your life right now is a dream, a passion, a quest or simply an enjoyable pastime that you may have set aside because “they” said that you should.  To hell with them!  Be your own bad ass self and dust off your true desires.

True callings need no further explanation.  They don’t need to make sense to anyone.

Can you imagine how beautifully different our world would be if everybody said? “To hell with them, I’m going for it! ”

I talked to a right livelihood client this morning that is terrified of discovering a vocation that would require further schooling.   In my post Screw Going Back to School I talked about this myth that someone else knows better than you do, what’s really good for you.

Ideal careers and businesses are more often created than found.  Creators don’t need further education because creators credential and qualify themselves.

Sure, really going for it is scary as hell but there is a version of you deep within who does not want to settle in any aspect of your life.  That bold being wants to experience all the necessary bumps, disappointments and scrapes on the way to really living.

Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming  ‘WOW-What a Ride!'”
Robert Wickman

There may be a time for caution but from what I’ve seen, caution is only a self-constructed cage that delays courage and holds back the real freedom of living.

What is your one more rugby game?  Will you commit to playing it?

Authentic Business Discovery

The absolute sweet spot of your business is that place where your deep gladness meets the world’s deep need. But how do we find a need so deep that fulfilling it would also make us feel so good?

There are two distinct schools of thought when it comes to discovering the right business to launch. One school seems to be more spiritually based – focused on finding work that you love, following your passion and living a purposeful life.

The second school appears to be more practical; focused on finding a need and filling it and about designing a business to alleviate your customer’s pain.

Which school of thought would serve you best right now? Most likely, it’s the opposite of the one you believe in the most.

Vocation is where your deep gladness meets the world’s deep need. Frederich Buechner

That’s right, following Buechner’s formula, to build a profitable and fulfilling business we need to develop our businesses guided by the wisdom of both schools.

So how do you identify a potentially profitable business that is deeply fulfilling to you and deeply gratifying in service to your clients or customers?

One effective way is to put yourself in an environment that honors your creativity while at the same time insisting on your productivity.  You could attend a Big Link Rally event. You can visit my coaching website and request an exploratory conversation. Without accountability and commitment to action, even the best original ideas die on the vine.

What else could you do to get to the point of a confident new business launch?

1.) Get very clear on one end of the spectrum by identifying a deep gladness or a deep need.

2.) Then persistently observe, brainstorm ideas, consider approaches and seek openings until you have a matching need or gladness that feels strong enough to develop.

3.) Then imagine the fulfillment of that gladness and need working together seamlessly in a profitable business that you own. Do this by answering these questions as if you have already succeeded.

  • How have you changed the world for you and your clients?
  • What can they do now that they couldn’t before purchasing your product/service?
  • What can you do or be now which you were reluctant to experience before developing this wonderful business?

4.) Write down all of your answers and continue to make adjustments until you can withstand the sharpest of challenges when questioned about your projected business.

5.) Then once you’ve decided and committed, continue to identify the next best step that you can complete to move you further each week and take that action.

Personally I like to get so fired up that my business feels like I’m starting a revolution. My mission needs to inspire me to that degree.

How about you, how can you tell that you’re on the right track?

What’s the best combination of personal gladness and customer gratification that you can imagine and believe in?

If you’re already in business what deep need are you now fulfilling?

If you have yet to start your own business what deep need would give you deep gladness to provide?

Finding Your Business Sweet Spot

Since each of us has unique desires, values and strengths, it follows that each of us also has a unique business in us that we could build better than anyone else. Discovering that business, and then developing the confidence to launch it, is what stops most folks from enjoying the fulfillment, freedom and prosperity that was meant to be theirs. The absolute sweet spot of your business is where your deep gladness meets the world’s deep need.

Vocation is where your deep gladness meets the world’s deep need. Frederich Buechner

Risk, self-created pressure, marketplace demands and the lack of financial reserve are all factors that raise the new business bar high. You can lower the bar by understanding exactly which areas need attention, adjustment and strengthened before you make your move.

Al at 7P Productions recently asked an excellent question that’s worth considering in light of a new business launch. What’s Important: Who You Are or What You Do? I vacillated answering until I realized that it’s not “either/or.” These are only two of three spokes in the wheel to really get your new business rolling. In entrepreneurship and business success all three are equally important.

1). Personal Growth is what you know, understand and are willing to engage in about yourself.

2). Business Mastery is your proficiency in utilizing what you know and understand about business.

3). Personal Productivity is what you commit to and take action on to bring it all together.

Will you turn into Superman by identifying these three components of business success? No, but you will have the confidence of Superman – and the lack of inspired confidence is often what stops folks from living their dreams.

Looking at these three, where is your ideal point of adjustment for either growing your existing business or launching a new business? Adjusting simply means to bring into proper relationship with one another – and the closer we get to alignment the easier the business runs. Identifying and adjusting the right path represents our operational sweet spot.

Here’s an example of a misdiagnosed adjustment. In a 23-year sales career, often I would see new sales people struggling with lackluster results. Many needed to go deep within and examine their feelings around personal rejection. Yet Stupido, the sales manager, would give this brilliant advice. “Just make more cold calls and you’ll be okay.” Stupido pushed his timid new reps to adjust in the area of personal productivity when their true adjustment was in the area of personal growth. How long do you think they lasted?

Cath Lawson recently wrote an insightful post 7 Questions To Ask Before You Launch A Business.
Each of her questions falls under one of these components. Read her post and see if you can tell which goes where.

Personal growth could also be called awareness or development. Hold on now; before any of you spiritual purists start a debate on this, please let me explain. I agree, at a core level there is no development necessary because we already are whole and complete. Yet a funny thing happened on the way to maturity; we rubbed up against a whole passel of folks who didn’t see themselves as whole and complete. Because of this conditioning, to successfully launch a new business, some growth is necessary.

Everything worthwhile requires more of us than we originally imagined. This is a given, and no one gets a free pass. Eventually we’re all challenged beyond our point of development and we have the choice to work through it, stall out or quit.

Bottom line, the choice is yours to recognize the extraordinary person you already are. You can listen to your excuses or to the drumbeat of freedom. You’ve proven that you have the wisdom to consider the freedom of self-employment or you probably wouldn’t be reading this post.

Adjusting for optimum personal growth is not a matter of becoming anything – it’s more a matter of choosing to live into your preexisting greatness by facing your fear and moving through it.

Using blogging as an example, you may need to become more vulnerable and share more of yourself on each post. You may have to work to find your authentic voice or even your real purpose in blogging. But whether you look at blogging as a business or not, your sweet spot exists and you will enjoy greater fulfillment and help more people by finding it.

Business mastery is made up of methods, strategies, systems, concepts and processes. How well you understand and utilize the right components at the right time determines the effectiveness and efficiency of your business. There is an optimum way for everything, and struggle is only valuable as a lesson. Struggle is not a strategy.

Business Mastery is your proficiency in utilizing what you know and understand about business. It’s often the “how to” of business. Budding entrepreneurs used to say, “I don’t know how,” and it used to be a credible lament. But now the Internet has made that excuse obsolete. As little as 10 years ago, start-up knowledge was difficult to access. Now we have so much at our fingertips that the challenge is deciding what sources to use. But it is all out there somewhere.

Adjusting for optimum business mastery is deciding on the right business model and identifying exactly what you need to know that you may not be aware of. An experienced business coach or mentor can provide extremely valuable counsel for this adjustment.

Personal Productivity is taking commitment all the way through taking frequent actions that are the right actions at the right time, while tapping one’s resources to the maximum. The personal growth of awareness and the knowledge of business mastery are useless without action. Generally it boils down to a matter of doing what you can do today, and then taking action again tomorrow.

For most, the optimum adjustment point in personal productivity is to ramp up the frequency of meaningful actions.

Whether contemplating a new business launch or building an existing business, you would be wise to consider the location of your optimum point of adjustment.

What is your optimum point of adjustment right now?

Believe It Or Not

I’ve found delightful work to be an illusive experience for many folks. Often it’s more effective to approach the discovery of delightful work in multiple and varied ways. Sometimes we need to sneak up on our own minds to extract the wisdom within. Other times we can set an intention and go for a full frontal exploration. And sometimes it works well to release long-held beliefs in order to consider what might reveal itself.

First let’s look at some distinctions and definitions. A calling or vocation is generally considered to be more spiritually meaningful or purposeful than a career. Builders of careers tend to be more focused on advancement from one level to the next. I coined the term delightful work because none of the existing terms, including right livelihood and vocation, seemed to carry the exact meaning I was looking for. Delightful work is work that has all the elements of deep delight:, freedom, deeply fulfilling gladness and financial prosperity.

In my very first post, 362 days ago, I said that delightful work is: amusing, attractive, captivating, clever, engaging, enjoyable, fascinating, gratifying, luscious and thrilling.

It’s that level of delight that I wish to encourage and inspire in all, simply because it’s possible for all. Yet it’s only possible for you if you think it is.

So, in this post, I’m asking you to use your imagination to consider some new beliefs around what you think is possible in your work life. I’m asking you to expand your thoughts beyond the realms of your existing beliefs. Are you willing to do so?

Men often become what they believe themselves to be. If I believe I cannot do something, it makes me incapable of doing it. But when I believe I can, then I acquire the ability to do it even if I didn’t have it in the beginning. Mahatma Ghandi

You could debate me on this one, but I think that all of our beliefs tend to be limited in some way. I’ve even met folks who believe we’re better off without any beliefs. Yet even that’s a belief, isn’t it?

Each of our beliefs at one time was only a single thought based on something that we observed or thought we observed. We often didn’t question these thoughts or even consciously look at them. We simply accepted them and they became true for us over time, as one thought built on another. Thoughts and beliefs tend to attract and collect matching thoughts that build credibility and create the beliefs we have today.

So what are your beliefs regarding fulfillment in your work? I invite you to take out pen and paper (or keyboard and fingers) and try answering some or all of the following questions.

What earning limits do you see as possible for yourself?

How about freedom, is it likely that you’ll be completely autonomous in your work someday soon?

How delighted are you to face each new day?

How often is your work captivating and thrilling?

What’s the most delightful expression of delightful work that you can imagine enjoying?

Vocation is the place where your deep gladness meets the world’s deep need. Frederick Buechner

To increase the probability of even more delightful work, it’s necessary to set the highest of standards because without those we often settle for something less.

In the coming weeks, I’ll be writing more about this sweet spot between the world’s deep need and your deep gladness. In the meantime, consider the possibilities.

What beliefs regarding work are you willing to replace or expand?

Which beliefs no longer serve you well?

Make Your Move to the Freedom of Self-Employment

Many talk about the wonderful freedoms of self-employment, but they wait to make their move. They have made up all kinds of reasons why now just isn’t the right time. But if they take the time to look within, they know they’re lying to themselves.

Here’s the truth. Most folks are more ready to make their move than they give themselves credit for. I’d like to prove it to you. Are you willing to play along? In my coaching practice, I know a client is going to eventually get where they want to be once they reach a state of inspired confidence. Inspired confidence simply means that you know what you want and you are confident that you can make it happen.

I know that you’ll feel better about yourself once you take any small inspired action towards your objective. I know you’ll believe in yourself and your capabilities more once you are in active pursuit of your work life freedom. Somehow, we’ve got to get you out of your head and into action. So let’s start here. I’ll provide the formula. You provide the ingredients.

Right now, in this moment, what inspires you?

You might have a new goal or an old dream or a budding idea that inspires you. I’m talking about that animating, enlivening, emboldening, invigorating inspiration that lifts you and lightens you just thinking about it. There’s no sense playing along unless you can stop and write something down now. It’s time to leave the realm of just reading and thinking. Do yourself a big favor and actively participate this time.

It inspires me to imagine a world where the majority of folks are actively engaged in their work life freedom. Wouldn’t that be something? Imagine how uplifting it would be to run into more folks who were inspired by their work than bored by it.

But what inspires you? Got something? Excellent! Let’s make it a reality.

First I want to share some ground rules. It really can be this simple. If you can agree to these ground rules you’ve got it licked.

  1. You accept and act on the basis that you inherently have the capability to pull this off.
  2. You agree to take one small action that will get you closer to realizing the objective of your inspiration.
  3. You agree to celebrate the completion of that action regardless of its results.
  4. You agree to honor these ground rules as if they were sacred covenants.

Here’s the formula:

Inspiration + Belief + Divine Connection = Inspired Confidence

Here’s why this formula will work for you. You’ve provided the object of your inspiration, so we know it’s authentic.

Anything works when you believe it does. Why not believe that this simple formula can work for you? If what you’re doing isn’t working, then what do you have to lose? I’m not charging you for this. I’m just asking you to trust my experience as a coach and my deep desire for the world to be free from deadening work.

Divine connection states that God is not a tease. If you were not capable of bringing forth your inspired idea to reality, then it would not have ever come to you as a desire. All desires originally emanate from Divine Intelligence. The connection is yours for the asking. Your desires are not some cruel joke being played on you. If you aren’t acting on your inspirations – you’re the one playing the joke.

Please remember the ground rules you agreed to. No more hesitation – it’s your time to act. Before you do, right now, imagine your dream in actuality. Feel the gloriousness of living it. Imagine the beautiful change you’ve brought to the world. Isn’t it time to find your vocation within the freedom of self-employment?

Vocation is where your deep gladness meets the world’s deep need. Frederich Buechner

The world is thirsty for the expression of your deep gladness. Don’t make us wait any longer.

If you know of someone who has dreamed of being their own boss but has waited, please forward them this post. It’s my mission to help them see that they need not wait any longer. There is always a small step that can be taken to move us closer to where we want to be.
