Trust Your True Calling Gut Feeling

istock_000003792360xsmallHere’s a way for you to shorten the amount of time you spend before starting to work a true calling.   Like most good things in life making a bold, strong start is half the battle.

You have a pretty good idea of what your true calling probably is right now.

If you are not yet enjoying the fulfillment and prosperity of working a true calling maybe it’s time for you to simply trust your gut.  Gut feelings are a much more reliable source of guidance than anything found outside of you, including advice from experts.

So …how much more encouragement do you need to just do what you were meant to do?

If you don’t follow your gut, do you understand what causes you to mistrust your gut feelings?

Perhaps you are misinterpreting confused thoughts for your intuition.  One thing I know for sure, the more you trust yourself and your own inner guidance the stronger and more accurate it gets.

Doubting, over-analyzing and hesitating only add to your confusion.

This is the biggest detriment to working a true calling.  Hesitation.

Most hesitate far too long before getting started on work they were meant to do.  They spend too much time on discussing, researching, thinking and analyzing.  Too much time wasted on all the things short of action.

1). Accept that you are more ready than you think you are.

2). Accept that if your personal true calling idea wasn’t made for you, (meaning you have the complete capacity to pull it off) it would not have even come to you.

3). Invite your intuitive self to communicate your strongest and truest path.

4). Listen attentively and write down what comes to you. Then try it on for a couple of days.  See if any other guidance arises.

5). Ask the most powerful getting started question.  What could I do now to move this idea forward?

6). Do that thing and ask again from the improved perspective of one who has honored her or his true calling by acting on it.

The world is ready to conspire on your behalf but only if you listen to your gut feelings and act.  At which point of the above process did you hesitate? How can I help you to act more boldly today?  What idea have you been hesitating on that you know is meant for you?

Uniqueness Your Grandest Gift

berriesYour grandest gift is your blessing of uniqueness.  You are one in 6,789,819,852 people in the world.  Out of those almost 7 billion folks you are the one who is best equipped to create a profitable business following your true calling.

Look to the right of this post.  You’ll find a gift I’ve written in celebration of your uniqueness.  It’s a True Calling Guidebook that gives you 9 powerful compass points to work the true calling process.

If you dare to use it, you’ll no longer want to play a smaller game.

When we play too small, we have forgotten how magnificent we really are.

Playing too small amounts to not honoring your grandest gift.

Perhaps the possibility of discovering and engaging a true calling would not scare you so much if you accepted the reality of your certain greatness.

If you had heard others compliment your uniqueness often while growing up,  you would have an entirely higher opinion of yourself now.

Fully accept the sincere praise in this video and then I challenge you to tell me that you can’t engage your calling.   Imagine that everything you see in this video is true about you – because it is.

The True Calling Connection

Unity - People putting hands togetherTrue callings are big, ballsy and boldly uplifting. True callings invite you to ride a wave of reconnection that simply doesn’t allow small thinking.

Yes I’m talking about reconnecting your original link between authenticity (expressed true calling) and abundance but I’m also referring to a second reconnection – the deep connection of authentic souls to one another.

I want to talk about that second reconnection today.   My big idea is to create and facilitate experiential events where we accelerate the probability of fully engaged participants reconnecting their original link between expressed authenticity (true calling) and abundance.  The first ever live Big Link Rally is scheduled for January 2, 2010 in Pittsburgh Pennsylvania.

This original reconnection will occur sooner for each individual by linking together and creating present moment systems of deep trust.  It’s the connection to one another that opens us up to more vibrant life possibilities and makes a true calling become more evident.   Systems in nature evolve toward symbiotic relationships.  You want examples? Just look at the plants/flowers/bees/birds/seeds cycle.

People systems built on trust and mutual intent also provide order, support and stability.  Within such systems information is freely shared and dreams are nurtured.  The openness and playfulness of the group encourages even deeper connection and even more intentional self-honor.

Do you see how this connection to one another was weakened while growing up?  Our natural trust for one another was instead replaced by the fears of cultural conditioning.  These fears severed our support for one another and in the process severed our link to natural prosperity.

Our blessing of individual uniqueness ought to be all the proof we need to understand that the traditional business game of conformity, scarcity and competition is a myth.  Of course its dog eat dog if everyone is trying to eat the same dog. That game is only played and never really won, by those who fear their individuality.

Choose uniqueness instead.   Choose to engage differences through revering individual true callings to create greater gain and abundant benefits for all.

I’m creating playgrounds of right livelihood because by seeing the significance in my brother’s calling I can more assuredly find the courage to follow my own.  By catching the spirit of my sister’s calling I’m lifted and inspired to follow through and answer my own.

This first Pittsburgh event on January 2, will recreate what might have been had we all developed without the fear.  Can you imagine the lift?  Can you consider the likelihood of discovering a brand new calling together with others who hold the same vision while co-creating in vibrant New Year energy?

By trusting one another deeply, we evolve more rapidly, as we might have naturally, if we had always lived within mutually supportive environments of highly aware, intelligent connection.

Passion is evoked when we connect to others, purpose to purpose.  Meg Wheatley

Yes we are all connected and we can all play a bigger game by recognizing how much we mean to one another.  You are deeply important to me.   I love your wildness because it encourages my own.  Please bring all of you out to play.

Do not apologize for your emerging magnificence.  Those around you will either feel this call of connection or it will fall on dead ears. What has life become if we can’t freely share our exaltations for fear of offending others? Screw that!  Be your wild ass self please!

I accept that it’s my calling to poke, provoke and upset your apple cart.   That’s the whole point.  If you want both deep fulfillment and piles of money you may need to pull a new cart.  We’re in this together and attracted by your courageous calling we’ll all offer you a boost until you gather your momentum.

I am in such a clear blue field of glory right now that I can only inspire. I could use your help with a little grounding. If you have questions about discovering or validating true calling, with group connection, please ask them below.

If you really get what I’m saying try this experiment. Go forth and spread the word. Feel your awaiting connection to others on this sacred path.  Your soul will be nurtured by the authentic expression and the emerging heart to heart connection.

Evan Hadkins was naturally inspired to invite his readers  along for the ride to hear about new developments first here: Join us.

Can you feel our connection? What are you willing to do about it now?

Ripening Bliss

This is a pretty much off-the-cuff report on what’s been going on with me in the last week.   I’ve identified a very big objective and I’m working through a gestation period to allow my ideas to fully form.  Realizations are coming rapid fire and my certainty and confidence are growing daily.  tomshawiianphoto

Perhaps you’ve tried to do what you love to do but not enough money has followed.  Or you make lots of money but starve your soul.  Or you might know your big dream but you’re afraid to make the leap.  Or you want to be independent, fulfilled and prosperous but have yet to discover what to go for or how to bring it about. If any of that applies to you read on.

I was talking to colleague and regular reader Keena recently and she remarked how my posts have had a kind of ramping up momentum to them lately.  Keena is right on (a very good trait to have in her business).

So what have I been ramping up for?  In this post,  Make Your Life Count, I hinted about my new big thing.   Funny how it’s become bigger than I ever imagined it would be.

I’ve fully identified the what.   Now I only have to develop the more involved but easier work of the how to.

In this post, I said I was dedicating this year to reconnecting the link between authenticity and prosperity.

I’ve decided that reconnecting that link has become my life’s work and the mission of my soul here on earth.

Funny, I’ve always resisted using the life’s purpose term; probably because as a dedicated Scanner I didn’t like the permanence it implied.

But Holy Shit this is a whole different thing.  This is the real deal and the big banana all rolled into one.  So I’ve set the clock for 60 minutes and I want to share some raw realizations that may be helpful for those of you who are also on a path to discover your souls’ mission.

Yes you’ve read it right.  I’m making it my life’s work to reconnect the link between your original authenticity and your abundance.  For all who want to play along it’s time to put an end to this growing lack of vocational fulfillment.  I’ve got no choice.  I’ve been called in grand fashion and I’m up for it.

My Coaching

My main coaching gig has been coaching the leap to self-employment freedom.  Until my abundance fully manifests I’ll continue to serve one-on-one clients with this aim.  In fact I’m putting it out there – if you are scared shitless because you want to make a very big thing happen now, it will be very advantageous for you to work with me while I’m doing the same thing for myself.

Use Divine Coalescence

Call on Spirit to coalesce and assemble all the discordant facts, learning and realizations you’ve had in your conscious lifetime.  The good news is, even if you’re vocationally lost there is an Authentic Accumulation going on.  This aggrandizement has been amassing and gathering all the forces both seen and unseen in service of your good.  I’ll explain more on how to do this later.   But for now if you’re tuned in – ask for the coalescence to begin.

Hints Of Things To Come

Writing is not my best medium for delivering inspirational transformation.  Phone is good.  Groups on the phone are better.  In person is best.  You may want to pack your bags for an upcoming visit to Pittsburgh because the experiences I’m planning will more than knock your socks off.

I’m not sure how many more posts I’ll be publishing here at Delightful Work. Obviously the Reconnection requires it’s own home.  I’ll send you there once I’ve moved.  If you want to be sure not to miss major announcements and alliance opportunities subscribe to this email list, which is only for inspiring this big link.

Invite Mutation & Evolutionary Flux

Words can’t describe the raw energy that comes rushing in once you hit the mark on your calling!  Callings get heard from a strong declaration of “Bring it on Soul, I’m open and listening and ready to go wherever the journey calls.”  Know this – acceleration happens once you truly let go of dictating terms and throw yourself wide open to guidance.

Rapid Realization

I’ve surrendered.  Now I know what the artist who can’t quit painting feels like.  I must allow the Universe to work out the most important intentions so I’m turning a lot over to higher good.  I’ve been compelled to get my exercise outdoors in more natural settings lately because the ideas flow gloriously in nature.

Right Business Model

The right dream with the wrong business model slows development unnecessarily.  That delay could kill your dream if you don’t have the determination to hang in there no matter what.  And you’re not going to hang in there if you are working on a third place dream.  This has been my most valuable realization.

I know that there are those of you out there who have been trying to hit your sweet spot for some time without success.   I suspect that you also could have fallen prey to your caution.

Consider this.  When you do the business stuff wrong or make the wrong choices is it really because you don’t know how to do the business stuff right? Or is it because you haven’t chosen purely enough?

Could you be playing too small?  Could it be that somewhere, deep within, you really do know what your authentic work is and you know that eventually you will go for it?

I’m a ballsy guy but it took every once of courage I have to go public before working out all the kinks in this link.  But I also know that’s the way I’ll help those of you who want it the most.  I’ll be continuing to put out less polished stuff that you may find helpful.

Of this I am certain. We are all in this together. The link will not connect without the strong unconditional support of those who also believe in the glory of uniqueness.  I welcome all supportive comments and questions for connecting your link.   Let the real games begin now.

Fear Cripples Authenticity

Fear cripples authenticity and once crippled it doesn’t hold enough power to sustain itself.  Our dreams then become like kites without wind. iStock_000007626121XSmall

That’s the problem with compromise. When you settle for less than you know you could have, you poke a little hole in your soul.

We can only take so many hits to our authenticity.  After awhile the only thing that will resurrect it is full bore, courageous, original choices.

My intention in this post is to cause you to pause and see where your compromises are slowly killing you. You have many unknown friends and supporters who await the inspiration of authentic expression that only you can offer.

Yes, we are all unique but there are threads and themes of affinity running through us.  We lift one another by standing tall enough so that others can feel the light from our boldness.

When you stand tall by making an authentic choice, in an area that also inspires me; I stand a little taller too.

We are so close to tipping our world back to authentic harmony.

More and more of us each day are beating the drum of authentic expression.  The biggest obstacle to enjoying such a world is simply the fear of looking like a fool.

But who’s truly the fool?  One who stumbles in sincere authentic expression or one who hides safely behind the insidious mask of trying to fit in?

Because of societal conditioning, the fear of looking like a fool runs like faulty DNA through the fiber of our beings and the only antidote is choosing more authentically, more often.

Pure authenticity is the only thing big enough worth risking the approval of others.  Authenticity requires glorious tribute to individual courage.

When you make the decision to stand tall in your own magnificence you must follow-through and announce it.  Authenticity without expression is a watered down, less powerful force that causes unnecessary internal struggle.

If you’ve been brave but falling short of the mark look and see if you may have been holding back or watering down your expression.

Authenticity is best used in service to transformation.  It’s truly the action of coming back to our most genuine core.  Such genuineness must be seized and asserted with the glory it deserves.

Fear not.  You have what it takes.  Claim the work life you were meant to enjoy and check back here often.  I’ve decided to lead this charge in a much bigger way.

If you want to take full control of your website and stop being held hostage by your webmaster, join a very authentic friend of mine, Suzanne Bird-Harris, for a full week of WordPress Summer Camp, on the phone, to learn everything you need to know to successfully and easily take control of your website. To Hell With What They Say

I’m a 270-pound, 59 year old, with two ankle fusions, who is in training to play one more game of rugby.  Often they ask, why subject yourself to the very thing that destroyed all the cartilage in your ankles?  istock_000003152335xsmall2

What they may never understand is that while playing rugby I feel most like myself.  Most of my deeply fulfilling flow experiences have come on the rugby pitch.

I wonder, what’s your one more rugby game?

There is something in every one of you that waits and listens for the sound of the genuine in yourself. It is the only true guide you will ever have. And if you cannot hear it, you will all of your life spend your days on the ends of strings that somebody else pulls.
Howard Thurman

There is great value in doing something organic to who you are.  There is great honor in deciding – screw them.  Be.  Stand tall in your own skin.

A life of engaged authenticity carries great benefits and rewards.   Somehow this choice of authentic bliss extends to other areas of our lives.

The demonstration of unique self-honor creates an attractive self-confidence that cannot be created in less genuine ways.  It’s that bona fide self-confidence that makes us feel competent to life, as though we really fit the game of life.

Somewhere in your life right now is a dream, a passion, a quest or simply an enjoyable pastime that you may have set aside because “they” said that you should.  To hell with them!  Be your own bad ass self and dust off your true desires.

True callings need no further explanation.  They don’t need to make sense to anyone.

Can you imagine how beautifully different our world would be if everybody said? “To hell with them, I’m going for it! ”

I talked to a right livelihood client this morning that is terrified of discovering a vocation that would require further schooling.   In my post Screw Going Back to School I talked about this myth that someone else knows better than you do, what’s really good for you.

Ideal careers and businesses are more often created than found.  Creators don’t need further education because creators credential and qualify themselves.

Sure, really going for it is scary as hell but there is a version of you deep within who does not want to settle in any aspect of your life.  That bold being wants to experience all the necessary bumps, disappointments and scrapes on the way to really living.

Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming  ‘WOW-What a Ride!'”
Robert Wickman

There may be a time for caution but from what I’ve seen, caution is only a self-constructed cage that delays courage and holds back the real freedom of living.

What is your one more rugby game?  Will you commit to playing it?

How To Get the Best Career Advice

There’s a source of the best career advice available to you but you don’t trust it.  You don’t trust this outstanding career advice because it doesn’t seem like a valuable, little know secret.  Will you trust a career coach, with 10 years of career coaching experience, if I tell you the secret?  istock_000007706240xsmall

You are the source of your own best career advice.

If you’re confused and troubled about what to do, then you just haven’t asked your higher self or you haven’t believed what you’ve heard.

What if you had a loving, wise Uncle or Aunt whose only agenda was your success and fulfillment?  Would you trust him or her?  Well you have such a loving mentor and he or she is your higher self.

Career success requires bold decisiveness and your higher self can inspire you to action.  But you’ve got to be open to communicating with your all-knowing, higher guidance system within.

It’s all good.

You can’t choose the wrong advice, if you’ve gone to your own well.

It’s all good, means that whatever we choose, the movement gives us fresh perspective, to either progress or adjust.  It’s all good when we choose and act.  It’s seldom good when we hesitate to act.

You are your own best authority.

There are many ways to tell if you’re really getting good career advice by tapping your true source of wisdom.  Consider these symptoms and indicators.

Lower Self Symptoms

1). You wait, hesitate to act and over-think critical decisions.

2). You justify, explain and excuse your lack luster performance.

3). You seldom give it your all.

4). You often focus on past mistakes and future fearful what ifs.

5). You compromise and settle for smaller dreams, often suggested by others.

Higher Self Indicators

1). You more often act and create.

2). You tell more truth than excuses.

3). You bring your “A” game.

4). You are fully aware of the power of now.

5). You are working on a first place dream that brings you alive.

Isn’t it time that you quit playing small?  The world needs your magnificence.

Each day, you have this choice.  You can take your career advice by listening to your higher self and boldly act.  Or you can cringe and hide while listening to your little self or the lower fearful opinions of others.

If we are going to insist on identifying with just the little self in here, then others are going to bruise it, insult it, injure it. The ego, then, is kept in existence by a collection of emotional insults; it carries its personal bruises as the fabric of its very existence. It actively collects, hurts and insults, even while resenting them, because without it’s bruises it would be literally nothing. Ken Wilber

If you want more than you have, you’ve been giving less than you can.

We give less than we could be giving, when we fail to act on higher advice.

Our Higher Self cannot take action.  It cannot make choices.  It can nudge us and guide us and hand us painful lessons, but it cannot “make us” do anything.  Andrea Hess

It takes balls to follow bold career advice.  Often by taking action to build a small business or create unique value, we put ourselves at risk.  So what.

The absence of risk often indicates that we are playing too small.

Quit listening to your fearful, lower, little self.   Playing small serves no one.   Compromises may seem prudent but they’re just fearful hopes lacking passion.

You can find your own best path.   A confident  career coach can hold the light steady and challenge you to play a bigger game.  But you are the source of your own best wisdom.

Do the thing that only you can do.  Go big!

Be who you are.  Who you are is your higher self.  You’re lower self is simply a watered down fearful version conditioned by the collective fears of other small selves.

The opposite of courage in our society is not cowardice, it is conformity.  Rollo May

When times are dark and you pray for help, it’s always good to remember this.  Upon creation you were already given all that you need.  You arrived here equipped for magnificence.  You don’t have to ask for deliverance. You’ve already been delivered.

You’ve simply forgotten how magnificent you really are.  Go within, ask, you’re higher self will show you the way.

Be Authentic and Grow Rich

The connection between authenticity and wealth cries out for illumination. I coach and write to inspire and to encourage. This year, I’ve chosen a theme by which to guide my work – Prosperity through Authenticity.

Many have experienced the emptiness of wealth without purpose. Others have experienced authenticity without prosperity.  Fewer have experienced both financial abundance and authenticity, simultaneously.

Check out these Google search results.

“making money”            20,800,000
“being authentic”                  184,000
“authentic money making”        104
“making money authentically”      3

What’s wrong with this picture? Millions of search results claim to have the money making answer, yet so few are making as much money as they want to be making.

Is it possible that the masses are approaching this question from the wrong entry point?

Or perhaps they aren’t asking the right question at all?

What is the missing link that bridges the divide between authenticity and prosperity?

I’m not asking you to answer the above question. In fact we’d all be better served to ponder deeper questions over time, instead of making a mad rush for solutions. In the interest of high self-regard, each of us needs to reflect on the connection between authenticity and prosperity.

But are you curious?  Are you satisfied with the many methods and solutions that over-populate the Web?

A good copywriter can make rotten fish smell pretty sweet. I’ve clicked through to read some of these moneymaking schemes, as I’m sure you have. The shallow stench of nothingness sickens me.

The dearth of genuine value is one reason for the collapse of our financial markets. All of this empty marketing, for the sake of marketing alone, smells of the same inauthentic bullshit.

Isn’t it time to get real? One way is to wipe your slate clean with a big, powerful, authentic eraser of the fresh new start.

There’s an inherent promise that comes with being authentic.

Be all of who you are and the world will support your authentic expression.

It makes perfect sense that we ought to be lavishly supported, for fully being who we are. The world doesn’t owe you a living but it certainly does want to support the most authentic version of who you are.

Why then is financially abundant authenticity such an illusive state to reach?

What is the question that if you knew the answer, would set you free? Peter Block

This is the question I’m looking for regarding authentic prosperity. Stay tuned, more authentic musings to come.

What brings you alive?

What gets your juices flowing and your heart pumping? Whatever it is my friend, are you honoring it?

So what brings you alive? Is it natural beauty, a big hug, taking a risk, driving music, a crisp morning, a touching moment? What brings you alive and are you honoring it often?

Do you know what brings you alive? Do you know what makes your heart sing? Not certain? Then look at the people and activities in your life that are way too small for you.

Anything or anyone that does not bring you alive is too small for you.
David Whyte, from his poem, Sweet Darkness.

What definitely does not bring you alive? What’s killing the core you? Take an honest gaze at what’s killing you and you’ll find what brings you alive.

Another good trail to follow is to look for what you want. Then ask, “What about what I want is enlivening to me?”

Another hint is to look in the opposite direction from prevailing wisdom. Sometimes we’ve got to be radically bad to find the boldness of aliveness. I mean, the heck with what they say. They are way too small for you. Be radically bad and declare your freedom from all those cultural “shoulds” that are weighing you down.

What rocks you at the core of your being?

Here’s another clue. Answer this question about your dreams or big life goals. What matters most to me in my life right now and am I working on it?

Self-confrontation is one doorway to inspiration.

So, my friend, what matters most to you today and what are you doing about it?

Walking this brave path means heartily welcoming all of life. It shouts to life. Bring it on, I’m ready. I am here, I am now and I’m alive!

Often by frequently engaging in smaller aliveness activities we can nudge open the doorway to greater glory and the accomplishment of dreams.

Aliveness is a choice that could move your life from “ho hum” to “ah hah!”

Gratitude, inspiration and enthusiasm are life’s jumper cables. Use them to recharge your aliveness battery.

There is no good reason to refrain from simple pleasures that bring you alive. Rejoice in your peculiarity!

In your comment, tell us three easily engaged in activities that bring you alive.

Mine are:

  1. Laughing out loud
  2. Singing my heart out
  3. Anticipating the first big hit in a rugby match

What brings you alive?

Get Real about Your Work

Somehow we have lost our way when it comes to our work. Most of us may believe that it’s possible to enjoy delightful work, but how much of our work is actually delightful?

Woman in Field

Some feel that work can all be like play and others feel that some of it needs to be like work. That’s what I examined in this post, Work as Play? I keep changing my mind on that one but that’s not what I want to address in this post. Or do I?

First, I want to ask this question.

Why do we complicate the things that matter the most to us? Specifically, why do we needlessly complicate creating a life of delightful work? (If you’re thinking, “I don’t complicate having delightful work, it’s just that I ________ {fill in the blank}….” then that’s what I mean by complicating it. For example, having reasons why you don’t have a life of delightful work is “complicating” it.)

Is it because we fear the change so much that the complication is a defense to delay it?

Or do we really, deep down, not think that delightful work is possible for us?

Or, are we really that afraid of our own brilliance or of our unique success?

Do you agree that the answer to delightful work is found within? Then why do we look to others for answers? Aren’t we the better source of wisdom in our own lives? What fears arise in you when you examine the possibility of totally delightful work?

That raises another question. Is it really the happiness and fulfillment of delightful work that we want or is it freedom from having to work at all that most attracts us?

For example, I think it’s interesting that so many of us coaches and bloggers seek to develop streams of passive income. What’s that about? We could say that we just want our bliss to be shared with a larger audience, and there could be some truth to that. But let’s get real here. Let’s talk about what we hope to gain.

Do we really want to become Internet info-marketers? Not that there is anything wrong with that. But is that your passion? Are you seeking delightful work or the positional advantage of not having to work at all? If you’re really looking for a way to earn money from not being physically present, is this an objective or an evasion? Is the work that we do so uninspiring that we are driven to develop ways of evading it?

I only pose these difficult questions because I’m asking them of myself right now.

Let’s dig deeper and get real about our work. Perhaps we could take a deep breath and start fresh with our examination?

In our work we ought to experience as much joy as we possibly can. Can we agree on that as a starting point? In my welcoming message I wrote: Delightful work is: amusing, attractive, captivating, clever, engaging, enjoyable, fascinating, gratifying, luscious and thrilling. Captivating, engaging, enjoyable and fascinating! That’s how I’d like to work more often. Here’s a confession. I write about delightful work and not all of my work is delightful. But whose responsibility is that? It certainly can’t be anyone else’s but mine.

I already do enjoy the freedoms that I care the most about, the freedoms of self-expression and self-determination.

The freedom of self-expression allows us to openly say whatever we want about our work. The freedom of self-determination is enjoying the option to be completely at choice as to when, how, with whom, where and on what you work. It is even the freedom of choosing whether to work or not.

Is this drive to develop info-marketing products really our way of seizing the freedom of self-determination? Does this really mean that we want to be free from the obligation of work? Do we really want to be free to choose whether or not we work at all? It’s really interesting to see what remains when we completely remove money and its accompanying self-created pressures from the equation. If you did that, what would remain?

Would your work life look different than it does now?

How specifically would it look different?

What would you immediately drop? Add?

What would you do more off? Less off?

Would you be working more or less? Would you be working at all?

Would you still be trying to build your opt-in list, sell your eBooks and become a successful info-marketer? Or, if money were no longer an issue, would you even care about that anymore?

What would be the central theme of your work? Why don’t we find out?

Excellent, then let’s do an exercise to remove the need for money completely from our work and see what remains.

You’ll need your imagination, a timer, blank paper and a pen or pencil. Set the timer for four minutes and start it when cued to do so. Get that stuff and come back to reading. It will be well worth your while. Ready?

Here’s the scenario. Imagine you’ve received a registered letter from a venture capital investment firm. They represent a large conglomerate that wants to buy the complete rights to an original idea of yours. There is no negotiation. They are offering you 3.7 million dollars. As you read on, you see that there is a catch in the form of some very peculiar terms. The letter will self-destruct within four minutes and the offer will be withdrawn – unless you complete an exercise exactly as instructed. You are being asked to open an envelope and as you do your four minutes will begin.

In the envelope is one instruction. You must write down the whole truth about the work you intend to do once the issue of money is gone. Tell the truth and the money is yours. Otherwise you get zip. Ready? Pick up your pencil and start the timer.

First you may have been tempted to fix a few other things in your life. But after you purchased the home and car, after you traveled the world, after you were generous with charities, friends and family. Now what? What about your work?

What did you write? How will your work be different? I’m betting that your answers are more real than the work you are now doing. I’ll share my answers in the first comment and I’d be honored if you share yours as well.

The bad news is that no one is waiting to offer you 3.7 million dollars. The good news is that you now have a blueprint to follow to do the work you were meant to do. By doing so, you have raised the probability of making your work delightful and of earning your own 3.7 million dollars. The only question is this: Will you use this blueprint or will you go back to following your fears instead of your own inner wisdom?
